@craner what are your views on the Lucy Letby debacle?

    Situationism

Yeah the main issue with Semprum's turgid book (I read the whole thing for my sins) is that it's just an utterly irrelevant ahistorical diatribe.

the (digital) hardcore continuum - no, seriously

have some decent (nothing particularly special) trancey/proggy mixtapes from billy nasty but yeah even he abandoned it mostly come 95 as it descended into overrought melodrama for blokes called Gerry.

That was when techno had a lot of freedom. Could be housey stuff from 125 to mindmelting analog kickdrum mayhem. Goa/trance and prog house were the nails in the coffin though.

    Jungle

I spoke to tim reaper about this. sent him a track with a darbuka break. but there are too many rattling highs so chopping it is a bit awkward.

    Jungle

jungle is somewhat of an anomaly in that sense, new breaks or new sample sources or new ways of arranging things need to be discovered for vitality. Whereas with techno it can too often turn into overcomplicated sound design. This isn't an issue for jungle imo.

that's Tadd Mullinix, super underrated producer, although I think his techno is more unique and less overtly retro, just by virtue of it being analog distorted synth tweaking.

re the left as historical category, of course my politics are informed by it, inevitably so, even if to go against the bourgeois ideologies of anti-imperialism and national independence. But I suppose in a way my cut off point in that sense is the collapse of the USSR, not because the USSR was...

I think this is the first mention of the word breakcore. Sounds like a dutch ruffneck gabba tune, only a lot less hoover/juno-y and much drier. https://www.discogs.com/master/37147-C-Tank-Nightmares-Are-Reality-Part-III Not sure if I like it, compared to their magnum opus from 1992. WALK ON...

Yeah Scud was certainly coming from that DJ background where the ATR lot weren't. he did a few cool mixes, 94-97 style.

but in general I prefer flashcore for rhythmic non-dance listening. Although you can dance tyo flashcore, but you need to be very precise with your half time skank. But it's about the intense barrage for me.

tbf I am just far too consumed by how digital hardcore never did what french speedcore did and mutate into flashcore. So this topic does get my goat up.

ah see I make no distinction between dj listening and home listening. which is probably counter-intuitive. But I'm not a professional dj, so I can take that liberty.
