Poisonous Dart

Uhh...OK.

Can anyone explain why there were girls dressed in fox outfits running wild and dancing in the streets of London in Wiley's video for "Wearing My Rolex"?. Is there a fox problem in the UK? Was it referencing anything I'm ignorant of (American) or is Wiley and/or the guy who presented the treatment/director just on some amazing drugs?

No reason at all, other than a snide swipe at Dizzee's video for 'Sirens', which features him as a fox. There are huuuuge amounts of foxes in London, Dart, like everywhere at night.

I think the reason Wiley dashed from the video set has less to do with him being afraid of foxes - although that's a good reason he gave, I would have been afraid of foxes as well if I'd gone on that set - and more like he's afraid of appearing in a totally gash video that would have ruined his reputation forever. Major labels are useless, just useless, the mind boggles. It makes the 'Night' video look like art.

All about pride and egos
Nothing ever goes right for Wiley when it comes to him trying to infiltrate the mainstream record industry does it? This video is absolutely fucking horrible and is a total product of that shitty dance music cheese aesthetic - which is a shame, because Wearing My Rolex is going to come and go as a shitty cheesy dance track, and considering his face isn't even in the video for what is going to be his most successful track in terms of mainstream recognition, I doubt that it will ever be remembered by most as having anything to do with grime at all.

According to Prancehall's blog, Wiley isn't in the video because after seeing what they were up to, he refused to be in it. This makes me think that if he has this little control over his own video, then Atlantic don't even really care about the fact Wiley made it either.

Cringe moment #2 surrounding this release is their (Wiley and Skepta's) PITIFUL attempt at creating a dance to go with this track, the "Rolex Sweep". Check Prancehall's blog, it's so embarassing: it starts out as the macarena and then turns into some sort of gesture you'd imagine a gay french aristocrat to make. They'd have been better off trying to revive the Running Man.

Macarena my ass.

I'm doing the rolex sweep right now. The grime scene definitely needs way way more named dances. And if you never did the running man, you're not real. Cross Colors is coming back. 14 year old Kids in BK are already doing the kid-n-play jumping over your leg dance to my tune (search Craziest Riddim on youtube).

Dance fans to di world!

this current trend for hainging a dance to go along with a song is absolute wank. it is not the same as the running man or high level or whatever. its cynical as fuck.

smart move not to be in the video on wiley's part cos its shit

but even if atlantic are not interested in him as any sort of future prospect, at least the hype surrounding this single will mean that his next release (hope to god its not electrogrime) will be picked up by the ears of lots more people - that can only be a good thing

holy crap that's good.

btw i met a guy that teaches at (one of) dizzee's old school(s) the other day, i forget the name but it's in bow. i asked him what the kids were listening to (when they're not getting involved in bengali vs black race/gang wars that necessitate riot police, that is) - "crap american hip-hop, and lots and lots of chipmunk" he said. so there you go.
