blerr blerr blerr. so when are they gonna stop rebranding deep house and actually make something truly fresh?

feeling that IC "Deep Runnings" track tho.

I read it more as some Minimal Tech Deep House hybrid, could be wrong. That's not necessarily what I heard last time I locked to Circle, mind.

its not really the same as the German lot though, and its definitely not as explicitly regressive... loads of the European producers are very explicit in their desire to 'take it back' to house etc, wheras these guys (and producers like Atjazz, Freerange etc) are on a different flex i feel. its still not really new in any sense but its not claiming to be, and a lot of it definitely feels a lot less burdened with the weight of history

i found it really interesting that WBeeza is getting pushed by them, came across his stuff recently and heard it in a totally different light... he's a big talent I reckon, looking forward to hearing more new stuff from him

circle don't really come across as the most humble of guys. the idea of people being interested in whether stuff is well produced rather than if it sounds good is silly, surely this has been well documented (hardkore/jungle vs overproduced dnb etc). and knocking funky cos it sounds like grime...

i listened to their show on monday, some of it was pretty boring.

thanks for interview tho, good to know!

i think the point to take from the interview is that dubbage doesn't matter but it does, you know.

and the wbeeza stuff is fantastic imo. check out heavy shit and london is my home

i actually kind of missed off the end of this sentence...

"its still not really new in any sense but its not claiming to be"... and thats kind of the point, and at the moment i for one don't think that it matters. giant steps are a wondeful thing but the irrepressible and constant demand that they be supplied is not... i'm finding it refreshing to engage with music and scenes which approach the whole thing in a different way

I'm feeling Mojuba etc, it's just nothing too exciting.

yeh but they also come across as quite self aware, like they completely acknowledge that people who are coming from a different angle might find it boring. and while they're not saying it's all good and different approaches are all valid, they're not locking off discussion.

"Whichever road you take or prefer it’s exciting. People from the funky side will say that the road we defected to is boring. That’s their opinion, and I personally won’t bite anyone’s head off for that. We expressed our opinion on where Funky’s going, so it’s only fair everyone has an opinion but don’t start crying about it – that’s long."

thought it was another big interview, nice one boom

yeh i agree, compared to many he wasn't that forceful in his opinions, more just confident

it also strikes me that their perspective is very much about a social thing as much as a musical one
