So what distinguishes a mega mind from a 'genius' or just any fellow making good stuff is the perpetual motion machine of the mind. Artists with preternatural ability to produce and the inability to suppress that drive. Because of this its important that we have some biographic information, hence picasso. He showed technical prowess across many styles and decades, but we also know that he held such a grip on his inner circle that many of them committed suicide or got addicted to drugs after he died. Clearly whatever stuff was inside Picasso was always in control of the vessel

Now look at the two most renown surrealist artists- Dali and Magritte. Dali is a mega mind- preternatural talent spread across disciplines with little distance between the artist and the person. Magritte is not a mega mind- he's a bit of a nerd who thought his way into the scene through careful deliberation and found a single lane he could stick with and develop for his entire project

Important to note that this isnt a value judgement but a psychological study. There are plenty of non mega minds whose work I prefer to Picasso and Dali and etc.

Obviously on here Luka and Craner are our comparable Dali-Maggrite dyad.

So I dont know if I could call Pynchon a mega mind because we know very little about the man himself. For all we know he could have just been a very successful and expansive maggritte.

I do think someone like Steve Jobs or maaaybe even Elon Musk could be mega minds because they were both always on and the mega mind is often a sociopath.

I think Beckett was more the mega mind. Tons of work across styles. Famous socialite.

Joyce wrote three books, didnt finish one. was a bit of a loser and suffered writers block

Beckett consciously developed something of a single lane though in response to Joyce, the world-eater.

did he? He wrote plays, novels, poems of all different styles and all in his prime.

I know joyce wrote drama and poetry but its not held with the same esteem and you could call the world eating his singular project. Like a very dutiful anthropologist.

Joyce does have that mega mind quality of words just spilling out of him though. He could be a 'genius' maybe but Im not sure he maps perfectly onto what Ive called the mega mind
