That's true of course. But I did notice a large number of political commentators criticising the decision - for its cynicism really I guess, for being a very extreme case of that in which they knew exactly what a terrible person he was and the sort of problems he would cause but they thought he would win the election for them. The point is, their pearl-clutching resignations ring a little hollow now when they were warned so explicitly and so often that this could happen, and when they voted FOR him in a vote of confidence ten minutes ago.
Edit - actually the cabinet couldn't vote in the NCV I understand.

Steve Barclay, allegedly an evangelical Christian (health).

Michelle Donelan, who apparently thinks holocaust deniers should give talks at Universities because of free speech (Education, which Zahawi held before jumping into Rishi’s role).

Both must have done the arithmetic on this on power x longevity. Time will tell if they have sound judgement there.
It's Barclay and Zhawi isn't it?

On the news they kept saying that he was one of the more highly regarded and competent of the remaining tories...

such a cynical type of smear, another one that's commonly heard on Fox News and by the GOP, a variation on "when did you stop beating your wife?"

"I don't think XYZ Democrat is a pigfucker. I mean, he probably isn't, I don't know for sure."
Who was it who claimed his rival was a "practising homo sapien"?

looking forwards to having a new hate figure. its going to be interesting looking back and seeing if there's much difference to what happens policy-wise depending on which particular arsehole or arseholette is in charge

Interesting couple of weeks ahead. It's hard to see who the tories view as a potential successor tbh, might be worth doing Archive.ph on a couple of Times and Telegraph pieces over the next view days and seeing who's name pops up

I think Javid is manoeuvring with his speech today but hes still tainted with the smell of shit from Boris, too little too late really

Outstanding. Both Donelan and Zahawi are right now in a delegaton of ministers calling for Johnson to resign.

watched bits and pieces of this, quite interesting to watch him get grilled like this. its nothing like the thumbnail suggests, its just people sitting in a room full of green chairs talking to each other.

also interesting to think that this would for so long have been totally mediated by newspapers or whatever, and that now you can watch it without any mediation at all (if you want)

I love the idea of US Question Time, but I think we've become too polarized and tribal for it to be of any use. It would be a joke, just be obnoxious one-sided statements from both sides, probably descending into schoolyard name calling (and, if we were lucky, the occasional fistfights).
