Rogue Status creates controversial designs that provoke an involuntary emotional response and dialogue about the themes that are done in a direct reference to current global events.
The brand bio speaks volumes

Poststructuralism feels very played out, the ‘10s still assumed its allure. The ‘20s wants its grand narratives back.

Vaporwave sort of feels like an aesthetic bridge from the 10s to the 20s. When did the 90s obsession get mainstreamed? Vintage clothing market exploded at some point.

Vaporwave is quite distinctive i think because its fake nostalgia in a way but also entirely viable subcontinuation of western japanese emulation ie 80s late night driving game zen akira x ridley scott black rain or 80s mann manhunter (etc)

I think they were quite good the 10s

Stranger things the vaporwave 2010s goonies
When that came out, it wore its influences on its sleeve so blatantly that you could often pinpoint the exact source for any given scene, be it Scanners, Akira, The Thing, A Nightmare On Elm Street, blah blah. The overall impression I got of it was that it was a more monster-oriented and less highbrow modern take on Twin Peaks - but then Lynch and Frost surprised everyone by making a new series of actual Twin Peaks, which turned out to be darker and weirder than either of the original series.

The failure of the UK in the 2010s is demonstrated by the fact that stand up comedians with names like Sean and Russell became the unaknowledged legislators of the age.
There's one Russell whose Brand is not exactly in the ascendant right now:

With friends like these, etc. etc.

Another notable aspect of the more chaotic second half of the 2010s was soundcloud rap / emo rap

its the shift from hedonic nihilism to numb and detached nihilism. molly to xanax

which i would sum up with this tragic photo of xxxtentacion

It had to be cos the original Twin Peaks has this reputation as the strangest thing (no pun intended) ever on TV, but while that may have been true at the time, it really doesn't look that way if you watch it now - so the only way it could preserve its reputation and be as headfucking as the first one is by being a lot fucking stranger.
