Yazoo - Situation ( Dub ) ( 1983 )

proto acid house

a story I have told too many times is how once on BBC Radio One there was an interview with some kids stuck behind the "iron curtain" and they were asked "if you had one wish what would it be?" and Kid A answered "I wish for world peace" and Kid B answered "An end to world poverty" and Kid C answered "I WANT TO SEE DEPECHE MODE LIVE!"

well, I achieved Kid C's dream a couple of week's ago! I saw depeche mode live!

I was persuaded by my love of my life, and co-star in some of my infamous videos, to attend a "DM" concert, which was an "experience"

we got through the metal detectors at the stadium entrance, which was a relief, as we may have had a NYE crisis when an experiment goes wrong and a battery could not be found, but then a bull dyke police woman targeted her sniffer dog straight at me, but it turned up it's nose as there was nothing to be found, an action which I likened to a "leading question"

and then after an hour of berghain techno that left me unmoved we debated whether a reformed Yazoo could fill up an O2 arena

I still say DM went downhill after Vince left

but this Yazoo tune is proto acid, I defy anyone to argue the opposite

just for shits and giggles here's a video featuring 80s fashion and the vocal version:

Yazoo - Situation

the depeche mode fans were of a 'certain age', I felt young

lots of elderly people punching the air, demonstrating how much they were 'into it"

I'm unfamiliar with the catalogue but even I recognised the big tunes - an acid version of "everything counts", rock out version of "silence", and the encore was a hilarious example of crowd control, previously I'd never been aware of the 'oooh" backing on "can't get enough" but somehow that was extended into 5 minutes of up and down arm movements
