Hi guys, hope ur all cool & that. Just wanted to know the best tracks you think defected has ever released, I have been getting into house a hell of alot lately, and have been exploring different styles & types. In awe of theyre vast back catalouge, I was wondering if you guys could pin-point your favourite releases from them over the years?

Most recently I have found "Rej" by Ame (and all the different mixes) to be one of my faves, as well as obv "Cure & The Cause" and A few from Chocolate puma, (there definitely is more, im not on my home pc)

so....

Nooooo! Defected are pretty pony, Alex. They're a massive UK independent which gets by on re-licencing previously released tracks and then marketing them to the Vauxhall Nova brigade with about eight shite remixes. Both "Rej" and "The Cure And The Cause" were done this way (the first came out on Innervisions, the second on Fish Go Deep's own Go Deep label). You're best off checking for the compilations they do with decent DJs compiling them. Dennis Ferrer did a one a couple of years back:
http://www.discogs.com/Various-Dennis-Ferrer-In-The-House-LP2/release/985840
http://www.discogs.com/Various-Dennis-Ferrer-In-The-House-LP1/release/1022588

And there's the Masters At Work one:
http://www.discogs.com/Masters-At-Work-In-The-House-Part-One/release/309884
http://www.discogs.com/Masters-At-Work-In-The-House-Part-Two/release/312314

Otherwise, it's not the best place to be looking for quality house music, to be honest.

party record with a siren
Mike Dunn MD Xspress - God Made Me Phunky (and Karizma's version)

Africanism Allstars - Block Party
Michelle Weeks - A Purpose (1200 Warriors RMX)

Wasn't it Defected that picked up a couple of partially tolerable J Majik housey d&b productions, back around 2000?

Thinking specifically of 'Love Is Not a Game' which came with a predictably stupid Dillinja pots 'n' pans remix, and that 'Spaced Invader' thing.

A few more:

Gregory's Don't Panic
MAW's To Be In Love!
Get Get Down!
Cleptomaniacs - All I Do remix

Kenny Dope remix of Wahoo + Capitol A... 2005 (OUCH). Do any of the Funky DJs play this?

Yeah - low hit to miss ratio, but I assumed that that's what this thread is about.

It's not like they're bootlegging or anything, and they've got their shit together enough that they make it possible to buy stuff digitally that is often out of print on the original pressing etc.

dennis ferrer's "the world as i see it" cd also, pretty solid for a house album.

they have licensed some good quality house music!

Also on point and probably succinct, where Alex comes in:
Gwen - Soul Conga foundational Funky
Marlon D - Jesus Creates Sound. Likewise. And Baaad
Conan Liquid - One Time... (although I'm always put in mind of Paul Meme's quote about "leaden horns" with this one)
Quentin Harris too much
and did Defeceted put out Squire For Hire? Also not sure about DJ Fudge, around the same time still..

True, but their hit to miss ratio is incredibly low.
Im guessing Defected re-releases have made a few paychecks for a lot of worthy artists, so I have nothing against this sort of operation (although the ratio is quite low and their whole stichk w/r/t marketing and look is iffy).

Yeah, quite like both of those, pretty much the last of J Majiks stuff that was listenable.

I was going to mention these in my post before I edited - but then I thought that these are Strictly Rhythm, aren't they? Or has Defected licensed them too?

"One Time..." is very blokey. I like it, but it never really goes down how I think it might when I've played it out. "Bring It Back" has a bit more swing to it.

You may well have me there Hint, I'd have to check, very similar labels in that regard
"Blokey" - haha, perfect. Funky house tune masquerading as Grime. Or is that the other way round..?
No doubting Defected's influenece - early doors - on Funky tho...

Defected did buy the rights to the entire Strictly Rhythm back catalogue a couple of years back... hence the compilation with loads of rubbish remixes! :D

Johnny Corporate- Sunday Shouting

Something good they signed from another label. Defected & Positiva ruled the vinyl section of every HMV & Virgin, they were often clogged up with the shit remix 12s rather than the popular originals
