@people sitting exams... How did everyone do? Just finished my last one there, thank fuck. Spent the last 2 months doing fuck all except from studying and having a curry on a saturday. Still feel like I've missed x or y marks here and there, which bugs me but fuck it. Now I only have 3 months to wait for marks...

Some good, some not so good. As always really. Exams have never been a major problem for me, it's usually quite easy to blag your way though the majority which drags up the terrible scores for the ones I actually needed to have worked for. Will be getting specific marks back later in the week, but already been told I got a 2:2 overall. Pretty gutted about that, it's primarily been a long, depressing, shitty grind for 5 years and I was kind of hoping I would at least be slightly more employable afterwards. Oh well, onwards and upwards eh? Time to get a job and start paying off the enormous student loan. Woohoo.

What subject were you studying? I've never found from my own/others' experience that the class of degree mattered much in getting a job. Just having a degree is what most jobs demand (tho this is obviously highly problematic too, but in a different sense).

To be honest I think the main people who actually care about a 2:1 are all the wanky multinational 'graduate employers' that I wouldn't work for if they, uh, paid me. You get the idea.
On the other hand most of the places I would like to work (start-ups mainly) couldn't give a shit about a degree full stop, and just want actual programming ability, which rather raises the question "what was the point?".

It's not a big deal really, I am just temporarily bitter having gone into university naively assuming that a) I would do well, and b) it would be the time of my life™. One or the other would have been fine, but neither is a bit of a blow.

this is gonna sound well curmudgeonly, but... people who keep posting facebook status updates about the cute stuff their baby has done/is doing.

Yeah, my ('little') brother works in 'new media', but at the very technical end, and is already earning more than I probably ever will. For him, a degree would have been a complete waste of time, to say nothing of money and effort. He's interviewed people with BSc's in computer science/IT/whatever who can't do stuff he was doing when he was 18.

Sorry, not trying to rain on your parade here or anything! You never know what you might end up doing in a few years' time, the way things are at the moment especially, and it certainly can't 'hurt' to have a degree, at least. Well done on finishing anyway. And the 'artiifical intelligence' bit sounds pretty awesome. :)

Exactly - allt he people who care about status ahead of actual ability, are wankers you wouldn't go anywhere near.

As to the second point, the debt must rankle, but the idea that university is the time of your life is for people who intend their 'real life' to be insufferably dull. Real life is great...

It depends what kind of 'real life' you're talking about, baboon. Aslong as there's no coal mines or gangmasters then I'd be inclined to agree.

Aye, at least you can get out and do a bit of earning now, and most places only really look for 'a' degree as proof you aren't a nugget.

Do not read this.
people who eat crap in the morning, im talking like chocolate bars & crisps and basically shit food, even millions... I understand they may give you some sort of sugar rush to wake you up, but if I ever tried to put that shit down my gullet before 3pm it would be back all over my desk by quarter past.

Sweet! I propose we form the Five Doughnut Club.

You need a BMI under 25 to join though, otherwise you're just a fat bastard.

had left over pasta this morning and it was gooooood. it's the chinese upbringing: real food right after waking up. sushi and a dark stout is ideal :)

do want to switch to the big breakfast, medium lunch and small dinner thing but it never seems to work out...

yeah, I can't believe people eat cereal with milk, ever, but especially not in the morning. That's not food, it's more like air with gross dairy products on it. Sweets in the morning are just heinous.

But then I think McDonalds' #3 is the best breakfast in the world, so ...

(My BMI is 17 so I figure eating 3,000+ calories per in one day is ok.)

Sushi and dark stout...damn, I've got to try that. Edit: actually, not so surprising, as seafood and stout is a traditional combo. Simple fish dishes also go well with toasted brown bread.

Scrambled eggs on toast, with blue cheese melted into the eggs, is a perennial favourite here. Hmm, this should probably go into the Brit Breakfasts thread.

Burger Kings' fries are better. So are Wendys' for that matter.

I had a boss once who would send us out to get lunch and make us stop at different fast food places to get the best fries here, the best burgers there, etc. I haven't had a donut since I had a job.
