This sort of thing gets said about a lot of people, but shacky really is one of the most down to earth artists I've had the pleasure to meet. Not a lot of guests would offer to do the driving so the promoter could get pissed, but this is what happened last time he played Glasgow for me. Total legend.

Amazing music.
By the way, I saw on chemical there's an entry for his new project "Woe To The Septic Heart!", which I have a sneaking suspicion will fill the Skull Disco sized hole in my heart, based on the name and artwork alone.
I read in an interview that the idea behind it was him + Vengeance Tenfold focusing more on spoken word stuff.

Anyway, check it here, you'll recognise some bits of it from the last MAH mix no doubt.

I'd love to see the man play in NZ, I think he's reached Aus before. Would be a brave promoter to bring him this far... I don't think anything would be commercially viable, but I still muse with the idea of doing it myself.
Maybe I'll sell amphetamines to raise the funds.

was surprised there was no thread on him already. he's nailed such an interesting little niche in the world of bass music. wasn't crazy about the perlon release, but it's grown on me slightly.

is basically what i'm feeling too. skull disco was ace. don't think he went deep as he could into the possibilities of that sound. really looking forward to what he'll put out in the future

Long been saying Shackleton is in a field of his own. His live sets are the one, there's something unique and captivating about his sound that no one else is quite doing. I love how detached it feels from all the trends that come and go. Looking forward to reading the wire, echo the sentiments about him being a top person as well - very unassuming guy.

Great about the Wire cover. One of the most inventive producers of the last decade and a stand up gent as well.

Which reminds me, it's almost time to get Dave Elvis out again...

Aye, I asked him for a rolly one time when I was out in a club in brighton and he duly provided - didn't know it was him cause I wasn't paying too much attention to his face during his set (which was banging). He didn't let on that he was Shackleton till I probed him on 'what he thought of Shackleton's set' haha. Seemed brand new, we had a chat about Jeff Mills.

His mixes are incredible. The two he did for MAH this year (Perlon mix and the farewell mix) were fantastic.

Can't really fault him. Every release has been solid.

I've got the farewell mix from the 26th of August, what's the Perlon Mix? Are there any others about that are essential?

I like Shackleton, but he's a bit like that kid at school who was into wargames and who watched Red Dwarf and who thought he was weird and dark. I'd prefer him if he actually got dark rather than intimated it, or just shut up about it altogether.

I guess this means, you think there's a discrepancy between the darkness of the track titles, and the darkness of the music.
Fine, but sam isn't like "that kid" whoever that was. He's about the most unassuming man you could hope to meet.

Oh god I'm not knocking him, I'm sure he's a sweetheart, but 'Shackleton' and Skull Disco etc kinda trades on this perceived idea of darkness that I just don't hear. Not just in the titles but also the samples he uses in the mixes. I'm presuming he does hear and think his music is 'dark', which is why I'm saying that I'm sure he's a sweetheart ;)

And I'm not saying those kids weren't sweethearts either, but, y'know. It's not an attack, jus a thought. I don't care what he's like as a person, I care about his public persona and his music, which I think is quite good but.
