GRIME- breaking news, gossip, slander, lies etc

you need to go way back before the re-emergence of Big H to pinpoint when grime moved away from its traditional sound and towards a more polished american hip-hop sound..

i mean when was The Movement cd? 2007?

It was heading that way for a while, I agree.

Not a bad thing as it's allowed the instrumental side of things to flourish.

Well, polished American-style sounds and Trap aren't exclusively hand-in-hand. But yeah.

It doesn't count for the Movement though, because aside from Scorcher and maybe Wretch, that's a crew of rappers pretending to be grime artists, because they think grime is just a 'sound' of hip-hop. For christ's sake, people in GrimeForum still cry about Crazy Titch making hip-hop records, but enjoy "Freedom Of Speech" as if that isn't as Eminem-indebted as a Hopsin song.

I mean, you can go back to the battle w/ Napper; there is nothing garage-influenced about that flow, he's not EVEN paying attention to the beat, he's just spitting a whatever bar written that seems like grime because it's in double-time and has the skippy flow.

*This will probably rouse Luka, as I think the first time we spoke, it was me insulting Ghetto and him getting vexed*

Ghetto was good
Ghetts is pants

I guess thats the same for most MCs after they chase money. Dont know when Skepta started smoking but he should turn it in

On the trap thing. (guess thats what its called, call it high hat rap or dirty south, whatever)

This Ruff Squad track has got the components for trap, potentially

2000 & Life was probably his pinnacle and even most of that is mediocre rap.

As a grime MC he's rubbish. Show me one reload that he got on his own without having to shout really loudly- just one reload bar- and I'll change my mind.

Ghetto is a great UK Hip-Hop artist. Possibly the best one. He's just a shit grime artist.

(And don't get it wrong, I don't dislike Ghetto, I think some of his tunes are great... I just don't look at him as the same thing as say... nearly everything else in Grime)

1:40 Ghettos best reload ever

unfortunately, it was against Napper and it wasn't his bar.

Might be alone in thinking this but I actually prefer napper in that clash: "Nah nah nah you're lyrically lame" is a great moment.

My aversion to Ghetto is kinda similar to the problem I've got with H. I just don't like the guy's personality and thats that. Same with Chronik (although in his case I really think he's massively overrated as an mc as well as being an unlikeable person). My logic is kind of hard to account for as I think Crazy Titch is a horrible cunt too but I like his style so i find him kind of fascinating to watch.

i used to think ghetto was shit but then i hated demon as well and thought neither were half as good as kano (and look how that turned out). but freedom of speech was really good and one of the best grime mixtapes of that period. mountain is also really good. he might not be much good now but he had some really good lines back then. big h is good on sets but i dont care for any of the songs hes done.

Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet! How have I not heard this!?

Some of the more "recent" ones I've enjoyed.
sounds like a Steel Banglez beat.

He's the best in Grime.

I'm still bemused why you don't like Ghetts Slackk, you can't say he isn't good, at the very least technically, he is.
Quite enjoyed his Christmas mixtape.
