The Doors

Floyd has plenty of redeeming moments, Interstellar Overdrive, Set The Controls, Careful With That Axe Eugene, etc

they seriously sucked after 1969 tho. dsotm is detestable. wish u were here is worse. don't even get me started on the wall.

posh public school kids who thought their insights were novel.

i just spent the afternoon with a frank zappa idolising prog rock musician. well, theres a lot of bad music in the world. not every genre can be hardcore.

another point against the Doors also: along w/The Byrds etc they gotta shoulder major blame for 70s SoCal cocaine soft rock

JJ Cale yes but The Band no way, they're like the poster boys for acceptable roots rock

not into roots rock or The Band at all but can't tar em with that brush

The Eagles, Air Supply, Seals + Croft, Michael McDonald, etc

also u can't just post a hardcore jam + be done with it

we all know hardcore is the best. that's the ultimate Dissensus received wisdom. nuum debate is the alpha + omega of this place.

he is the absolute worst.

otoh he did produce those X LPs which are pretty great. they cover Soul Kitchen on one of them, can't remember which.

Preferring X (hard to think of a more dreary, thin-gruel example of rock + poetry) to Doors is typical contorted logic of your Jimophobe

It's opting for failed pretension over fully achieved pretension

The first time I ever came across the opinion that Jim Morrison was a pretentious asshole it was a complete ambush, it never once occurred to me this was a conceivable opinion (especially as rock and popular music of many genres is littered with pretentious assholes, pseudo-visionaries, figures with a seer complex - it's really by the by - indeed it's often a catalyst - the yeast - or Yeats - that leads to magnificence)

The guy with this opinion was holding forth, jeering at Jim, describing the Doors as hogwash, etc

Thing is, this chap had just the previous week written a fawning cover story about Andrew Eldritch and Sisters of Mercy

Circa "This Corrosion" and Floodlands

bandz ahoy
Luka will be amused by my discovery of the word 'frenetic' in two of my reviews archived online IN A ROW

this is what i mean by 'occupying the pose' becoming the temporary occupier of the archetype. not undercutting the pose with self-awareness.
