11) Miles Davis - Rated X

Of course none of the 80s avant-funkateers came close to what miles did here. but what interests me more than the merger of north african sensibility with raga and stockhausen is how the guitar is dislodged from even approximating something vaguely resembling melody. if we're making a case for techno, it has to start here, first and foremost. the guitar as tone making instrument. rithing tentacles. and everyone knows how the droning organ and drums endorse memories of the most frenzied amphetamine psychosis.

See I got bored of this one very quickly but what you've written here is interesting.

And the Remarc tune immediately afterwards is amazing.

Really liked the first two minutes of that muslim EDM tune but got bored after a while and aggrevated. I suppose I've just got a low pain threshold, same reason I got bored of Miles Davis so fast.

This OTOH is SUBLIME, right up my (king) street

16) Degrees of Motion - Do You Want it right now (Kingstreet mix)

I had the same things
. Lots of it was the best thing ever for 45 seconds but outstayed their welcomes pretty swiftly. Loads of the noisy stuff really. Don't personally need large doses of that. Palette cleanser only

Yeah probably. Mines too boring to contemplate. I'm not interested in my own taste anymore. Redundant.

Atomhead tune is absolutely crazy - love the Patrice Rushen one after it, not heard before. And the Bobby Thurston.

There is something very invigorating about the juxtaposition of such wildly divergent moods.

I agree. Exhilarating jolts of ugly overdriven noise like electro shock therapy threatening to destroy your experience before the soundtrack to convalescence returns. In the ward with a teddy bear miraculously reappeared from your childhood in the bed with you.

The horror, the horror. Can't purge it. Nothing is ever the same again. Broken world. Time Out of joint.

funnily enough i was listening to some classic dubstep in your honour on sunday, those slow tempos contemporary adult dnb really do wonders as their own kind of urban ambient music. but then there would be a great techy tune on a youngsta mix from like 04 or 05 and then a non-techy drum kit sample would come in (i don't mind them but after around 2008 they should have been totally dropped never to appear again) and it's like really is this what most of dissensus sacrificed itself for?

which made me think about how bliss blog was talking about how a lot of the complaints against brostep were made by scholars of the hardcore continuum.

Yet out of all the people writing on this stuff he was one the only few willing to go into the outer realms, those lost zones as marc acardipaine put it... he was one of the only people in that milieu who could countenance the stupidly sublime - the good kind of stupid. others (more accustomed to middle class inhibition) needed it spoon fed to them through the more mellower detroit techno or the softer jazz jungle...

Si, you heard more of that atomhead type experimental speedcore? neurocore and la peste are other producers to check out as well as the michelson sisters...

in a huge irony those speedcore guys and girls are actually heavily influenced by Xenakis and Francois Bayle, so talk about the stupid connoisseur!

no it's all unfamiliar stuff to me, the name La Peste rings a faint bell

i'm listening to a La Peste tune (HardCore Love) and it is like digital maximalist gabber, so much going on in the sound design and beat intricacies - it's not unlike something that could be released on PAN

I can see the ina-GRM connection also

generally i've been drawn to the minimal-majesty line with this kind of thing -

the stuff i have gravitated to is on that line from the early Belgian stuff through to gloomcore, which is significantly slower (still crazy fast by most normal club music standards) than the hardest gabba - and where's there a bit of a melody, some atmosphere, a sense of grandeur

when it's so fast i can't even conceive of a physical response to it then i'm a bit befuddled

It's post-physical isn't it. you can certainly mosh to it or sort of jump around at half time house tempo but really it's just all going on at the subperceptual level. the kickdrums aren't even kickdrums anymore, they just serve as yet another arsenal in the nanotechnological attack. true psychedelic overload music imo.

This is trance rather than gabba isn't it? It's not agressive or industrial and the beats are all trancey.

no it's just hardcore techno, on the hardcore techno rather than gabba end of things.

there are some trance echoes in there granted but you'd never hear anything like this at a trance party, but there are even proto-trance threads on detroit so im not sure how useful that comparison becomes when talking about european electronic music.

trance is such a weird word because even this could be considered trance but it was lapped up by all the hardcore djs in the proto jungle era.
