The Dissensus Album Canon

the first big splash he made on the forum was claiming janet jackson was soulless and that jane's addiction was amazing. me and luke were stunned, but he wrote it in such a poignant way as to make us all pay attention.

he later said that it was a wind up

We had a conversation about it after. Sort of a debriefing.

i've never understood fancying janet jackson. if you fancy her you might as well fancy michael. they look the exact same.

i actually had a friend with an ostensibly gorgeous sister, but i could never fancy her because she looked like my mate.

Yeah that poster. I sort of know what you mean Barry, I dint like the video of the two of them together, scream, cos they dirtied Janet up. I always fancied Jo guest around that time. I had the loaded poster with her on one side, bacon sarnie on the other

it's a pretty amazing story, the African techno story. or maybe amazing isn't the right word.

whatever the word is for shaking your head in admiration at conceiving and then actually executing such a thing.

I worked for an NGO in rural southern Mexico when I was around that age or maybe a bit younger

I cannot even begin to imagine showing up and playing people there records

different situation, but still

it's definitely part of the dissensus origin story/creation myth as I understand it, along with I guess Energy Flash and then that whole early 00s blog scene

I showed up about 6 years in so I missed all that

anyway, I also appreciated that Peter Saville story. certainly k-punk would have to represented in any dissensus canon.

his idiosyncracies, which those of you who knew him will know much better than those of use who've only read some things he wrote

I having in the last few years arrived at age (mid-30s) where you begin to reflect nostalgically on people and things in earlier parts of your life

hey padraig. it was pretty crazy. the world is a different place now for sure. i can't think it would be so easy now.

you probably spent a lot more time in mexico and got a better feel for what life was actually like for the people. the boys would have been keener to spend longer at each place but, like a madman, i was seig heil we must keep moving forward.

i'm knocking on 50 now and certainly i remember a phase of "looking back" very strongly.
