I don't think you can codify it. I think it inherently resistant to codification because some bastards you will really, really like.

Lovecraft was not unusually racist for his time, especially in new England WASP society (and even now he would only be marginally beyond the pale), he married a jewish woman and his ideas on race did soften considerably during his life, especially after his sojourn in NY (which he hated). This doesn't excuse the horrendous racism and xenophobia in his work, but of course, Conrad and even Tolkien have been accused of expressing similar views, and they don't have the excuse of being repressed elitist freaks.

although a big part of football is unflinchingly condoning complete bastards
Yeah you make a devil's bargain as soon as you start watching it. If we had to stop watching the bastards there would be no game. And that's why we get so overexcited when some footballer does something that would be completely standard for a normal person.
With Suarez the biting is funny. It's unusual for football of course, but people get up on their high horse about it, like what would you prefer, getting scythed down by Wan Bissaka or bitten on the shoulder by Suarez? And he sort of did it when he was jumping as well, how much purchase can he have managed to get?

big part of cancelling is dragging peoples name through the dirt though isn't it? more than just cutting that person out of your life
I dunno, I think that's maybe the icing on the cancelling cake.

And who can you even cancel? Not your enemies. They're immune. Like, Nina could get cancelled cos of where she started out but you can't 'cancel' Nigel Farage. It doesn't mean anything

Yeah not even in terms of politics but you might have a friend who is basically an arsehole but you get on well with them, you have the same sense of humour or possibly they are just very charming etc Whereas you have other friends that you share move views with and would even admit that they are a nicer person, but you don't click with them in the same way.

I never trust people who claim to have 'principles' they will always be cunts.

There might be some big sins I haven't heard about but Nina is not cancelled as far as I know. She's just been on a weird journey. She can come and talk to the lads any time. I'd love to hear from her.
She aint cancelled on dissensus, but I get the impression that she might be in some places or scenes or whatever.
That's actually something we haven't talked about, cancelled in one place but not another, it's not as uniform as we seem to be assuming.

I do remember Mark Fisher saying something like we on he left don't have friends we have allies.
And thats why that whole circle was so toxic and constantly excommunicating one another. Because you weren't allowed to be friends.

Ask poetix. He will tell you. Half of them hate each other to this day. I never fall out with people, not permanently, I don't hold grudges, I don't care. I burn people out but I never fall out with them. But I fell out with Mark. He's the exception.

He was born cancelled. You have to 'in' before you can be cast out

This is probably why Sufis examples are mostly arty ones and not political. Within politics it seems to be that the trans stuff is the locus of cancellation because of how its split the left and the feminists

Harvey Weinstein should burn in cancel hell but not sure I'd take it out on the films. they aren't really HIS work, he just did financing. we love the screenwriting, directing, cinematography and acting in films, not the producing.

That's really, really depressing. I dunno how people can operate like that.

A lot,of people thrive off the drama. It upsets them of course, but they relish being upset.
