i favour simplicity in music, as a general rule

Sure, I didn't say prog rock did I! but some droopy sad cords is my idea of simple and boring, whereas as an acid techno barnstormer is basically made with a 909 and a 303 and like, 3 notes, but they are rinsed the potential out of. Complex in that regard, all the modulations and filters and how the sound interracts with its surroundings. what droid calls deep listening.

shes like a cross between inga copeland and lana del rey.

funny thing about this whole scene is how it's all set up round the low company records shop. ethereal girls and weedy lads into outsider music. its all ex blackest ever black people innit?

but yeah, good little scene, here's latest podcast from them

not listened yet, but i like their sense of humour

yeah and i wanted to punch Kiran Sand in the club when he went all spooky goth and regis started making DiJ edits. I'm not even against listening to music made by objectionable people (in this case doug pearce from DiJ) but it's shit and boring. that's the crappy oxford uni side of industrial! the good shit is bourbonese qualk, nocturnal emitions, esplendor geometrico, hijokaidan, maurizio bianchi etc...

What you've described is what John t gast is doing

Alright, I'll listen to it again in a few hours time. Doubt I'm likely to change my mind that it is not hardcore enough (as in approach and sound manipulation) and too middlebrow.

I only recently learned that a "nocturnal emission" is a wet dream. I always thought it was having wind at night and in your sleep.

third, you're missing the point on the low company milieux (meaning records they stock, not just artists they know/work with) if you're thinking of the long-outdated Blackest Ever Black/Goth phase. There's lots of variety, some connective tissue but very little sound connections between F Ingers, TRj, Triple negative, Kallista Kult, Ashtray Navigations, 5 Gate, Itchy Bugger, Karl Lindh, Civilistjävel, Mosquitos, the Jolly Disc crew, etc.

would you describe yourself as highbrow or lowbrow third? i mean, if you're saying you are not middlebrow?

I like the feel of Gast. He stands out. He's got that casual seriousness that can be really appealing.

would you call this genre, if you were gonna call it a genre, cos i know what you mean about the sonic dissimilarities, 'loser outsider middleclass'?

Thats absolutely fair. I know ashtray navigations from living in leeds and one of the others. was just responding to catalog's blackest ever black namedrop. i mean i am an outsider music dude, and unlike some don't pretend to minimise it, i just think like all things its become a bit of a church and a structure, which was of course not the point initially...

highbrow lowbrow pulp. fast and hard mental choppage and furious acid lines dripping in military intellect. none of that smooth sophistication or modern classical business! pure avant-prole.
