meh it's played out. Square isn't even significant anymore, he just has fanbase and thats it. much more interested in bliss doing a quick blogpost about all the speedcore/flashcore ive been sending him, unless ive missed it.

alright, a 10,000 page book consisting of in-depth reviews of flashcore you sent him, then. it's settled. that's his next project.

I'm re reading Rip it Up and Start Again at the moment and there's so much good stuff in there. A trove.

Also packed with resonant phrases. I read the line "the scent of spunk and the harsh tang of amyl" in there last night before bed and it's stuck with me all day

O RLY!

I loved that book, btw. I think I liked the book more than the music it was about, although it did definitely help thaw my icy disdain for geetars.

the music is dire. some of the worst music ever made in my opinion. but the book is great.

I can't really remember what was covered in it now but I like/love bits by Joy Division, The Fall, Television, DEVO, PiL...

You know what, I think I've misremembered here. I think what actually happened was that I really liked a lot of the music which I didn't really expect to like and which I listened to because of the book.

much of that music is great, some of my all-time favs. you kids were too young, perhaps even not yet conceived. you'd probably feel differently if you lived through it, no different from being at ground zero for hardcore, jungle, grime.

Yeah it's the endless manifestos, theorising, factionalism and posing that I enjoy reading about the most. All these nutcases on speed who thought they were gonna tear apart the whole game. The music is almost incidental in a way.

lolllll there's a vast wealth of amazing postpunk records, and Rip It Up manages to cover an awful lot of them

lotta chaff too, but that's anything, especially with so much going on

my idealized postpunk list wouldn't be exactly the same as blissblogger's but that's the beauty of the era ain't it, so many things going on across such a broad range of sounds, united by mindset/aesthetic/ambition, that no two people's will be alike
