I'm reading about it now and apparently they did receive tons of complaints at the time, but the fact it even made it to air is insane.

Yeah, I thought that in the most mainstream circles blacking up had been totally beyond the pale since.... I dunno, the early nineties at the latest....

@sufi did. He said he was uncomfortable with some of the drawings being posted,
i have to say i'm unimpressed by some of the gross stereotyping images on this thread :( don't really want to open another conflict, just to register my unhappiness about them

True. Maybe we should have.
I got the impression we were all somewhat inhibited by the prospect of the luka-barty double act responding with a classic "Oh it's just ladzbantz, can't you take a joke?" type of comeback and being cast as both stupid and a killjoy.

Or at any rate, I think I felt like that.

he's not here now so you cant talk to him about it. he did himself as a black man with a gold chain and a big black cock. he did sufi as a sheik smoking a hookah leering at dancing girls in his harem. he did droid as a cantankerous ginger haired leprecaun.

Yeah he definitely needs to come back. I did actually try to talk to him about it, but he wasn't interested at the time. I don't think anyone should get cancelled, certainly not for something like that, but we should all be able to talk about it. We are a civilised society after all.

Netflix pulled an episode of It's Always Sunny In A Philadelphia where blackface is used in a parody of someone who would do that.

no surprise there, exactly the kind of stupid, counterproductive thing I'd expect when under a blanket policy driven by corporate fear rather than a desire to actually productively address racism

the most bitter laugh would be if some streaming service pulled Bamboozled for using blackface
