I would say those of us still here who were there at the time fought for an anti-intellectual board with banter as a top component. that was what we wanted. that was our vision. me, droid, craner, eden etc. and we had to fight for it. and when we won Mark took all his intellectuals away with him. i would say that's it in a nutshell.

Been biding my time to put this Henry Miller quote to use

Who is the man who triumphs? The one who believes. Let the intelligent one's doubt, criticise, categorize and define. The man of heart believes. And the world belongs to him who believes most. Nothing is too silly, too trivial, too far fetched, too stupendous for man to believe. Learning crushes the spirit. Belief opens one up. Delivers one.

lol, there was no great struggle or vision. There was some ongoing tension over the direction the board was taking which then exploded due to some awful behaviour. If anything, Mark's position was that certain people should be able to treat others like shit as long as they had the intellectual credentials to back it up. When this was challenged he took his ball and went home. There was clearly a lot of other stuff going on with him at the time, and TBH it was a sorry episode that was probably unavoidable in the long run, but it was certainly far more dramatic than it needed to be .

Another Miller

A man writes to throw off the poison which he has accumulated because of his false way of life. He is trying to recapture his innocence, yet all he succeeds in doing is to inoculate the world with a virus of his disillusionment. No man would set a word down on paper if he had the courage to live out what he believed in....

I have to admit, even though it probably wasn’t too nice to be on the end of, Padraig’s crazed psychoanalytic put downs were a good read

none of us found Padraig upsetting really. we were all entertained and liked antagonising him cos we knew he had mental and emotional problems

Maybe your 4chan sized revolution would have happened by now. You burnt down the library

i did. but on the other hand im not certain it was possible to build a bridge to those people. they didnt want to speak our language and we were too thick to learn theirs.

it's all out warfare, every second of the day. strategic alliances, backstabbing, double bluffs, daring raids into enemy territory, kamikaze attacks.

I enjoyed getting all these interesting film and theory references chucked to me through his foaming rage at others
