I came late to jungle really (other than hearing 'Incredible' and 'Original Nuttah' as a yoof) so I didn't appreciate that there would have been a split in jungle between those who saw Photek/Source Direct/Metalheadz as an evolution and those who saw those producers/labels as a betrayal of the spirit of rave.

All I heard was the intensity, the atmosphere, the virtuosity of the breakbeats, etc. And I loved it - thought Source Direct (whoever they were, I'd not seen the video) were geniuses, their tunes a peak of achievement in jungle — while still being a huge fan of ragga jungle etc. I basically loved all jungle, or all the jungle that had survived to be canonised.

It was a better time, in retrospect.
