"Reading through the review I have a feeling of not wanting to read anymore around that brand of anglo anti-middlebrow culture like Joy Division/The Fall/Ballard/Cronenberg. It never reckons with the limitations that kind of escapism provided and the reviewer doesn't address how that stuff totally bypasses the younger left ppl he connected with."

Unfinished business. It ended in a mutually exhausted stalemate here, if I remember.

I am happy to report that we are now on slightly improved terms, due to Matt realising I was right about everything.

I’m happy to say we’re on somewhat improved terms at present. It’s also, of course, very much in the k-punk mould to get into massive rucks with high (if sometimes obscure) politico-aesthetic stakes.

Hilariously the autosave on the dissensus editor preserved my first draft of the above, which I discarded as smug (if funny) in favour of the less inflammatory second version. Except it wasn't discarded, so you can all see what I would have said if I was just going for the laff.
