Why is "beyond soul" something that can say its piece and expire, but the same can't be said of soul? Isn't that exactly what happened when it was replaced? It had had its moment.

And I'm not sure 'enough' is the word. It's just one ingredient of a very complex thing. But one of the most important

Because its a frivolity. A flight of fancy. Moving with the times. Its the hare vs the soul's tortoise. The soul remains a constant. All the other excursions are interesting but look where it gets us. CCP approved EDM djs, Senni.

Why is old music so much more compelling to dig into?

It needs a feeling of being a movement, true tribalism, a purpose to have soul maybe, for people to throw their humanity in it however that manifests.

What about heart though, I think it's always been much rarer and harder for electronic music to have a heart because there is no voice.

Everything is in constant flux. Anicca. Evolution. But some things stay, even if they're dormant. The soul is going nowhere.
Surely the same goes for the impulse to move beyond soul then? It just cycles round. You get good enough at something to take it apart, you reassemble it, you learn the ins and outs of the new assembly then you take it apart again.

Maybe in this context soul is human expression that is more ethereal, at times hedonistic, instinctual , heart is more direct and targeted, unleashing specific emotions.

Perhaps our predicament is we're clever enough to pull things apart but not clever enough to reassemble them in any meaningful way.

All cool tracks, but the industrial aesthetic is fundamentally a dead end to me just as much as the ironic take that Senni represents. Or even 'the everything is algorithms!!' crew aka Mark Fell et al. For me, non-human centerered electronic music need to point to something else than industry or digitalia to gain momentum again. Possibly connect with nature w/o intermediary new agey or folk-y or otherwise nostalgic/naive sentiment.

Not possible. will just sound like basic channel rip offs.

A return to soul does not end up with Senni, imo.

Soul = truth

Jeff grappling with the slipping away of the human here.

Senni's a comfortable art school student trying to be edgy/interesting. Hipster shit, basically. It's not interesting, it's vacuous. Inhuman.

Sure, we're saying the same thing here, i just think Mills is the real alien here and Senni is the typical middle class angsty human. like all Senni is nostalgia for paul van dyk writing an angel for his butters girlfriend, whereas jay denham was releasing records titled nuclear holocaust, or drum and bass bods source direct titling a cd controlled developments.

check it though, you can't say the industrial aesthetic is irrelevant when this sounds like a slowed down/double time UK funky tune in 96.
