I would love to know what caused this surrender. This will to convergence with, I'm a bit wary of using the word capitalism, but whatever this main thrust of history is. This aquiesence and end of resistance. This failure of the will

the will itself got monopolised by managers and placeholder technocrats. this was apparent when lockdown came into being. puffed up arrogant delusions of being able to defeat a virus through intensifying systematic neglect and reducing its spread to the sheer exersion of individual failure

Neutered. In theory you move from a Cold War, oppositional, dialectical, black and white, capitalist and communist, left and right world to a multipolar, uncentred, dispersed, polyvalent world but actually you just get convergence and Borg mush

Ben Watson was always furious with Deleuze and Guattari. He blamed them for transgenders. I always thought it was weird but I can see his point now. Once you collapse the oppositions you lose the energy

If you can get outside of your self to the necessary degree that may be true, but primarily what boredom is is boring.

On the grim Britannia thread all the old boys were talking about the boredom of the 70s and 80s, how omnipresent it was, and how oppressive. How it was the primary state of being, whether at work or off work. Boredom as an enveloping and inescapable atmosphere you dwelt within.

Boredom as the air you breathed. Easy for us to romanticise, in our world freed of boredom (and knowing what is lost when you lose boredom) but at the time oppressive and destructive and wasteful.

How can boredom be oppressive?
