If someone is boring me I consider it an act of social violence. If a job is boring me I consider it an act of economic violence.

Boring is antithetical to capitalism, even antithetical to Western culture, indivudualism. The whole lot.

What a weird thing to say. Those shop girls staring forlornly out the window or patiently folding and refolding blouses and putting them back on the shelves, they're not bored? The 8 hours plus we work a day, that's all a laugh is it?

Is it really? So people at work are never bored?

No, not if you have "a target", which is what ever project manager want you to have.

I don't conflate work with capitalism, though.

Boredom could be a sign of rigidity, that's not good. It could be a early warning sign of depression. It could be a state of re-calibrating as well. It could also be a semi-ideal for social life: quiet, de-intensification of everything. No hysteria. (this is not equal to hippie/new agey stuff. not at all).

Ask what the manager wants. He wants them to have fun, so they can be more productive. No one wishes boredom. Only the real revolutionaries

Well, this is all too abstract and theoretical for me. Too far removed from reality and the experience of people's lives.

Nah that's rubbish, if the job is a boring repetitive task then working towards the target is boring in itself.

In fact most jobs I've had have involved working and getting bored and then trying to make things more interesting but stopping and staring at the wall until you're bored enough to go back to the boring work.

Sure he wants them to enjoy the job but manager doesn't always get what s/he wants. Remember they are themselves probably bored.
