The thing you have to understand about luka is that while he affects this "I'm not interested in politics, me" pose, he's the most intensely political regular member here, while also being the least politically engaged
accurate

not to throw shade, it's just dead on

it's interesting how closely connected the rise of wokeism is to corporate power/adoption
it exposes the limitations of identity politics by themselves

MLK famously, in the period before his death, was shifting his focus to poverty among all races i.e. the Poor People's Campaign

in a similar way the most threatening thing about the Black Panthers was not the guns but the social programs

Fred Hampton was primarily talking about economic justice and solidarity across racial lines before he was assassinated

limiting the focus to race alone, even to a more intersectional form of identity politics, is a victory for capitalism

when I heard the NBA players decided not call off the playoffs altogether I was reminded of the famous Michael Jordan line

"Republicans buy sneakers too"

"New Coke" in the 1980s. Although a lot of people think that that was a deliberately unpopular product intended to revive appreciation for the original formula (which it did).

Wake Up Sheeple!!!!!!

yeah, less a boycott than a shit product extension/decent marketing ploy.

I'm not sure you completely understand where I'm coming from Tea but as I delight in mischaracterising and caricaturing everyone else I'm not going to complain when you do it to me.

I was with my Texan friend today and he was saying he's not going to watch Lovcraft Country cos he is boycotting all woke culture.

Which bit of what I wrote is wrong, though?

But I like padraig at the moment, I like his work on this thread. So I'm saying no more

I suppose this is intended as an obtuse dig because in your head I edit The Spectator or something.

No. It's what actually happened to me today. He's my friend from Houston. He's called Wally.

Padraig is not neutral!
Lol, he's slapped me down plenty of times.

He might have done it to you a bit more often in the last few years, but that's because you delight in making deliberately inflammatory posts.

tbf I do only cosign the part I quoted, the inveracity of "I'm not interested in politics"

it used be more true but since the pandemic and everything else, not so much

no one can really afford to not be interested in politics in times of crisis, like one can in times of plenty

I didn't know about that but it's very of the moment

really impossible to articulate how large he looms as a historical figure over the west side of Chicago

think on it - which Panther leader did the FBI, with Chicago law enforcement collusion, choose to murder in cold blood?

not Huey Newton or Bobby Seale. no, Fred Hampton, the man who organized a gang truce across racial lines, and started the free breakfast program.

his assassination is Chicago's own version of the MOVE bombing

there's no way to tell, really. I guess it's conceivable but in reality, Apple wants to sell iPhones and they don't care if their customers are woke folk or racists. Apple's marketing may appeal to woke folk but capitalism chases the almighty dollar wherever it may come from. Some companies say they care about social issues, but at the end of the day they don't really care who buys their product, or have very little control of who buys, and neither do their employees.
I think they do care actually. obviously apple want to sell phones but ideally they want to be woke as well, and if there's some way to do both (and there is) then that would be perfect. and if they could somehow prevent racists from buying their products - assuming it would have a limited effect on profits - then so much the better

woke corporate america is not something that exists for no reason, like some sort of weird accidental but ultimately meaningless arrangement, it's about legitimation
