London pubs

I hate alcohol. It stops me doing yoga with Adriene and feeling positive, energised, happy and intellectually vigorous

That pub stench of fetid air, quest ales and McCoys crisps makes me feel sick and depressed. Cigarette smoke used to disguise it, but now it's overwhelming, like inhaling a Beckett novel.

in town everyone sits outside now (thanks to the coronavirus). apart from the weather, the surroundings and the people, it's extremely continental

Our increasing ease with occupying public space is a very good thing

A shame cos pubs are literally the only thing the UK does better than the continent.
Well, I could probably think of a few other things.... steak and kidney pudding for example, but not many.

Lifeboats and pop music perhaps. But we have some great gardens and country houses here... although admittedly it's a case of quality not quantity.
We're planning to go and check out this one later today in fact when we leave the beach

It's got a walk with loads of statues and a well built by the Templars or something - looks fucking good

@IdleRich That’s what my living room carpet resembled coming down off mushrooms, a spiral vortex descending into another field of reality.

Do you ever go out (drinking or otherwise) in the capital? Last time I was there an uncle hauled me round The Borough (no Soul Crew thank fuck), The Cayo Arms (think this has been renamed), Flute an Tankard and a couple of old haunts opposite the castle. Designated driver exploitation at your service. Down to Caroline St for chips and cheese, one or two street fights to spectate.

Mad how much the top of Bute St has changed winding up to the Hays. Came home loaded with sea bass and goodies from the market. You can’t get good fish and chips in Nottingham for love nor money.

Never. I particularly hate Cardiff pubs.

I like the Ostrich Inn in Newland, which is near Tintern Abbey. I remember meeting the woman who owned it back in 2004, she was an old warhorse from Stoke Newington.

I don't know when you last went, but Cardiff is filled with all these fancy microbrewery places now. It's like Mr Tea's dream there.

A while back. Tiny Rebel et al I see on the map now.

I remember the old Arms Park on international match days would have rivulets of steaming pish running down the east terrace, my grandfather and his crew singing the whole time, all hwyl and hiraeth. That smell from the Brains brewery too, that hoppy musky odour that could hang over the city all day, smelled like victory. If it was open, he’d take us all down the pitch and putt at Porthkerry Park before piling into the Maxi to go home. Good memories.

The Brains Brewery is still in the center of town so you still gets the smell of hops.

The Pitch and Put at Porthkerry has just been rewilded for butterflies and birds. It's still a beautiful park. It was my daily walk during early lockdown.
