I don't think, personally, that our job is to fit ourselves to an objective reality which exists apart from us, demanding our subjugation.

Meant more your faith in progress. That with every passing moment we get ever closer to objective reality.
Averaged out, which is important. One step forward, two back, three forward, one back, two forward - ultimately getting closer, but not a stable progression. Weaving in and out of the optimal, but getting more attuned to it every time we pass through it.

edit: "asymptotic" is vital here, as fancy a word as it is. Moving closer and closer to a point without touching it, until the final moment, which is infinity.

I don't think there is necessarily some optimal cosmic frequency that has been resonating the whole time that we just need to calibrate to. Rather, I think the cosmic frequency becomes optimal, and we are just a more robust means through which it can do so. More robust than anything else out there, if we are talking about becoming organized, resisting the forces that would otherwise break us apart into some equilibrium.

And yeah, optimal for what? Becoming more organized, physically, on ever higher scales, ever more abstract scales. That would be the ideological crux of all this: optimal for what?

Corpsey

A big failure of mine, to set alongside the many others. Anna Karenina and Moby Dick spring to mind. A big book is so hard to stick with. There are so many smaller ones around that offer an easier win.

@Corpsey @version how do you guys feel about overlapping books, reading things simultaneously? Having a big book as a long-term project, time to ruminate, and then sparsing in smaller texts along the way. Or would you prefer to focus on one at a time?

You made a point somewhere about how a text is sometimes much more robustly received, depending on what kind of energy is moving through/within you.

Can't argue that my reading practices are optimal, in terms of robustly appreciating a given text, but I am also interested in parallel processing, extensive, moving on several fronts at once - even if the burst-fire, start-and-stop method detracts from the intensive reading experience.

In the case of something like Ulysses, my reading was pretty much breaking the ground, preparing for a much more fertile reading later on.

Well, based on my understanding of what we're talking about, I would position that kind of learning within the larger effort of constantly channelling the more robust experiential energies (phenomenal sensitization).

How it specifically applies to reading, I still feel the seemingly immature drive to be done with the text, to have gotten through it, and this drive seems to fruitlessly come at the cost of appreciating the text.

Decelerate the currents, in the interest of more comfortably wading or floating in the water, immersion, letting it more thoroughly transform you. Carried by the natural currents, rather than grip-marching your way downstream.

But the usual issue crops up here too, no? Namely the tendency, in trying to force an exit from a suboptimal energy, for said energy to persist.

Yeah I feel it currently - what you're saying registers to me as correct (in a wise sense rather than just a factual sense), that there are vast amounts more to appreciate, but I'm too frantically concerned with holding x fronts simultaneously, which I justify under the schizo project. But in the end, reading Ulysses would have been even more rich if I had better mastered the restlessness, the hungupness on some always-future state.

How the reading process works and its effects. What happens when word touches brain pan and nervous system. We are not trying to learn something but to experience imo
