Beast of Burden
The one thing I will say about Whigfield is that it was an absolute joy when she finally came along to knock Wet Wet Wet off the top of the charts after they'd been there persecuting us for four months. Is that inverted snobbery?

I agree with @craner , or Im not sure what exactly third and Luka are getting at (go figure)

Isnt the entire function of pop music to strike before preconcious understanding? Isn't that why its so intoxicating?

I'll admit my taste in pop is inverted snobbery but thats because I baked anti-pop sensibilities into my sense of self as a kid and have had to think myself back into its embrace.

never heard of the term handbag music, i think you have to be a bit of a snob anyway to know such a word exists.

of course. A eurodisco continuum snob. Like Italo. It's not an Italian term, it's used precisely against Italians who were American disco and UK synth pop fans. Italian music heads hated italo in the 80s, they wanted Italian productions to sound like Yaz or Depech Mode.

The only reason this whole thing started is because Third took offence to that glib comment I made about jungle in the Luke Slater thread. That was a mistake, I should never have dabbled in something that did not concern me.

Not at all.

Like I keep telling you, bernard parmegiani and xenakis eclipse both 94 jungle and 94 techno in futurism. 94 jungle shifts to a more 2-4 downbeat accent to add more human swing feel. Of course Blackdown wrote a long post on why he was struggling to write garage drums, and that's because he should have initially written his drums as a housetrack and then taken the 1-3 out entirely. 2step was the complete elimination of the 1-3, not merely it's deaccentuation.

Now, 93 jungle, that's another story entirely.

why we like is a very interesting question. it always does involve pitting ourselves against and aligning ourselves with other people/values

well this was why i kind of skipped uk funky. i was like my mates - they just wanna party and have a good time. ok good for em but im not really that sort of extroverted socialite, you know in a crowd I'm more reserved, moody, I want to be assaulted by sound, not to be lovebombed with an overload of anodyne singalong breakdowns. Going back into hardcore was perfect for me in that regard cos it didn't cut me off from the feminin presha but still kept that ruffness.

that is always the danger with a return to house as 'house'

and not house as a post-disco continuum that is an adaptable template.

He is not one to overlook any slight in the techno war, no matter how minor the player or inconsequential the comment.

All roads lead back to chicago though. I'm just trying to tilt the pendulum in favour of chicago and less so first wave detroit (second wave detroit is absolutely boss though.)

Jack the Welsh! proper chicago classic. even lemon d named an ep back 2 chicago and chicago fm was a uk garridge station.

I agree with this. I love house but I hate house historicism or at least house historicism and homage as it exists now, how it feels and how it’s sold
