Do you just not like or enjoy the physical world in any way shape or form?
Pretty much. I find it incredibly depressing. I don't like seeing real people, houses etc. It's all just miserable. You can at least distance yourself from how shit things are if you spend all your time reading books, watching films, pissing about online etc.

No joy at all from certain places or in the company of people? Or just not enough to justify the ball aches involved?

Audrey Wollen

LA-based but strong ties to the Kaitlin/Natasha crew, in part thru art/culture writing, in part thru Instagram.

I like Audrey. She's willing to work in lo-fi, she doesn't put on as many airs. She's the inventor of Sad Girl Theory and also made a very important and well-known artworld meme, "Girls Own The Void":

tumblr_nxpzruul5N1sq9zpoo1_1280.jpg

"I see sad girls everywhere. The list goes from Lana del Rey (1985-) to Virginia Woolf (1882-1941) to St Catherine of Siena (1342-1380)."

"I think the Instagram girl is already part of art history; she’s submerged in it. The selfie is slightly different because it is mediated by tech and the internet rather than a man with a paintbrush, but it still serves a similar function. I’m really interested in how porn, painting, and technology have blended together to create a whole generation of girls who endlessly repeat their own image."

Spenners we have literally zero interest in these people, we are from England, none of it makes sense. We like dickens and Austen, a nice pint of landlord, football on a Saturday. We don't need these high flying fuckers

I do enjoy that sort of thing, but only if I'm drinking. And I just find the constant failure of communication really draining. All feels a bit futile.
I was thinking about this last night. It's why I can't really listen to podcasts. People sound much more stupid when they speak than when they write. The constant umming and ahing, tripping over words etc. It's a perpetual struggle to get things out.

I like it as a sophisticated trolling routine. I think it's a high point from our boy. I approve.

I sort of do know what you mean, it can be tedious/exhausting sometimes if you are in a social situation with people and you'd really rather just be at home on hour phone cos it's too hard

I don't bother much with people. Even clever people. You just end up pretending to be thick and making stupid jokes in bad taste. God knows why.

It's amazing sometimes with people, like you meet an old mate and go for an 8 hour walk, it goes by in a flash, big laugh, but it's few and far between, hard to organise. I went for a drink the other night with a guy I know from way back and I know we're not gonna see each other for another 5 years

Let's stay on topic now, lads

Gaddis 1955 letter:

> I meant it when Wyatt says that the artist is the shambles of his work, but here it's those shambles they want to devour. One (women's, of course) magasine which considered publishing one chapter finally demurred (in frightened awe) but wanted my "picture" and what of my life I'd spare
