The only way I found round that was to click edit then resubmit the post without actually changing anything and it would embed the link as usual, but we aren't allowed to edit old posts anymore. If you quote an old post with an unembedded link like that, it will show up as embedded in your quote, e.g.
but then this is also proto house or even 'house not House' if we are to go off farley jackmaster funk tapes.

those editing rules are draconian.

maybe a script could be run to grab all the old posts with youtube links and basically just repost them? i have no idea how these things work, so no idea if this is feasable.

What would be useful would be a script that includes the video title in the post, so it's still there if the video is deleted 😎

That script is probably to be found in the mystical land of MySQL by the way in case anybody...?

the upgrade last night was a little bit hairy actually,
it dumped me 1/2 way through
cheeky thingScreenshot_2020-12-02 Oops We ran into some problems XenForo.png

then gave me the bananaScreenshot_2020-12-02 Dissensus - Admin control panel.png  when i tried to get back in

the old dissensus is still live too
sitting waiting for us all
totally quiet for all these months

with all those little glitches & idiosyncrasies still, sort of zombifying

i went to look at the stats on the admin panel a while ago and it was eery, really not very nice
like an empty nightclub or an abandoned mine

strangely lonely feeling to be in there all on my own ... spoooky
the logs will have updated "Registered users: 1"

we could go back there

do a rewind
or start a parallel SUSNESSID!!!!!

Should write to British library now and ask them to archive it all for posterity like they've done with a few other UK based sites.... Eg David keenan got his whole volcanic tongue site properly archived by them. You know, just in case, and so it's available for future generations...

The other thing that occurred to me in all this...
this minor upgrade made some quite subtle changes, e.g to the buttons in the editor - seems like they are slicker, more cartoony (i guess they are somehow vectorised, rather than pixelated in tech terms) but i feel hesitant about that, like maybe i preferred it before because it was somehow simpler, more direct, as if those little pixelly images were closer to the physical aspect of the screen, the tiny shining lights themselves, rather than processed and output as these little dancing spritey things,
feels like mild resentment of another tiny step towards dematerialisation, but i was surprised at how even that tiny thing created a small ripple of misgiving
