Does anyone paint? Post your own paintings please. A companion to the drawing thread, but they are different mediums, so we have different threads

did this in settle last weekend, after sufis catch of my spelling error made me think of the place, its not that far. signs up all over the place saying 'visitor? please go home' but it also felt like theyd be coming down soon. drove into the hills and did some quick warmups before i got this. two colour acrylic, so all the other tones are mixes from blue and yellow, and sthe green was what was left over from a warmup. not painted with acrylic before, totally different story to gouache

i just read in the local newspaper that there is an art competition in my district. only those who live here can apply. i think i'm gonna give it a go. i got three big canvasses (120x150cm), two works on large paper (70x100) and numerous smaller works on paper (din a3). i don't know if they will accept me as they seem to be looking for people with an art education or people who have an atelier. i have neither. i'll just have to write something pompous i guess.

trying to finish the one on the right at the moment:

I strongly recommend lies. Don't handicap yourself. The game is rigged as it is.

gonna make it something like this:

Bradford School of Art (1996–1998)
Royal College of Art (2000–2003)
St Martins School of Art (2003-2005)

Luke Davis Painting Prize (2014)
Companion of Honour (2018)
Royal Academician Order of Merit 2020
Honorary Doctorate, Otis College of Art and Design, 2020

i like those a lot. what kind of paint is that? i think it's my favourite way of working actually, to use the element of surprise and work your way from there. throw around colours and see if you can make something out of it, like seeing figures in clouds.

i like the third one most. it's like a person disintegrating. or someone making his way to heaven, leaving earth, body part for body part.

It's gouache paint on khadi paper. I've just diluted the paint a liitle with water, then used a dropper to make the splatters, experimented with height of drop a bit.

I've done a few more in the studio with acrylic paint. It's a good laugh.

Oh yeah, I dunno what that one is really. Just this guy dancing and then some more in the background? Falling about. I was gonna add captions from the stuff I've been reading but left them as is for now. But might make proper paintings out of them, like decide what each thing is then actually try to paint those things, properly.

But that's what's good about these, you can just make it up at every stage.

This Jan fries book I'm reading sort of talks about this, how you've got different sections in your mind. The creative part is separate to the decision making part, you need both elements for a good painting.
