@Matthew you might be interested in Bolo Bolo? It's a sort've utopian vision of a more ecological society. Quite fun.

It includes a lot of stuff on rewilding the city, coupled with the ability to travel for adventure to different "bolos" some of which would be more isolated than others.

The guy who wrote it has set up some cool souding communities himself in Zurich: http://o500.org/
i had a read and i thought this was very interesting.

the detail of his vision of how these should be organised gets quite close to being like building a dungeons and dragons world.

Yeah I think the detail is what makes it fun, glad you found it useful.

certainly one of my fantasies!

this great documentary on a chap living in patagonia

It's interesting how he keeps up with the papers and radio, despite camping out away from the main world 50-some years. They're just dispatches from a world he probably only vaguely remembers

drove through west Texas about 15 years ago, stayed in a few towns with populations of 500-1,000. it was great and everyone we encountered was fine, but it was also oddly unsettling. enjoyable, yet also so isolated that you felt a bit vulnerable.

Yes that's astute of you catalog. I'm impressed. They've often been nonced (85% of cases) leading to a fear of humanity in general.

if you watch the dan price video, there's something so weird about him, he reminds me of crumb, got this odd mumble. and at one point he says that he's made his current place so small cos he got sick of people coming round to see his other places.

good film, i ended up watching all 4 parts. decent sheep slaughter session. and i liked the fenc eit took him 4 years to build. interesting what he says about how you need animals to survive. patagonia is such a weird place, sort of brutal as well as beautiful.

whats good about the sheep eating bit is they just cook it plain, eat it straight off the bone.

there doesn't look to be much chilli or garlic sauce going on. and he seems to generally live on canned food.
