When people compute the chances of life emerging, is there a chance that we're thinking of these percentages the wrong way?

One of the (seemingly) consistent patterns up the ladder of physics and even into some metaphysics is that the optimal permutations are privileged, in that they exist longer than suboptimal permutations. That is, certain molecular structures are more architecturally sound than other structures, and thus they can hold together longer against the forces that would otherwise dismantle them and return them to equilibrium/disorder.

The same goes for biological evolution, it seems, in that certain phenotypes are more conducive to survival than other phenotypes. Hair length, beak sharpness, what have you. So its not like each possible permutation has the same chance of occurring, much less the same chance of subsisting. If you were to somehow get insight to the sheer number of possible permutations, some of them seem to be "weighted" more than others, thus making them more likely to be sustained, if they happen to be reached.

So microbial life across the universe could very well surpass its ostensible odds of coming into existence, because perhaps we don't consider the weightedness of some permutations over others.

Non-ergodic selection is the term

Stuart Kauffman wrote a book on this tendency recently
A World Beyond Physics

biocentrism by Robert lanza covers it too

Well yeah, duh. Idiots call them 'octopuses'.

I reckon 99% of 'space science' is bollocks. "The stars you see in the sky actually died 10,000 years ago!" sounds really sad and romantic but there's no basis to it. Was probably just some NASA bod trying to impress a woman he fancied. Probably takes a few hours to fly to Pluto (which is a planet). I love how people who've never crawled into a space shuttle and actually gone up there can lecture us about light years and black holes and how long it takes to blah blah blah. "I saw it through a telescope..." Come on, wise up.

For this reason I believe it's very plausible that aliens exist and even walk among us, and that some of these 'number stations' may actually be Martian classrooms practising human speech. Glad to see sanity prevailed in this poll.

Former Israeli space security chief says extraterrestrials exist, and Trump knows about it

A former Israeli space security chief has sent eyebrows shooting heavenward by saying that earthlings have been in contact with extraterrestrials from a "galactic federation."

"The Unidentified Flying Objects have asked not to publish that they are here, humanity is not ready yet," Haim Eshed, former head of Israel's Defense Ministry's space directorate, told Israel's Yediot Aharonot newspaper. The interview in Hebrew ran on Friday, and gained traction after parts were published in English by the Jerusalem Post on Tuesday.

A respected professor and retired general, Eshed said the alienswere equally curious about humanity and were seeking to understand "the fabric of the universe."

Eshed said cooperation agreements had been signed between species, including an "underground base in the depths of Mars" where there are American astronauts and alien representatives.

"There is an agreement between the U.S. government and the aliens. They signed a contract with us to do experiments here," he said.

Eshed added that President Donald Trump was aware of the extraterrestrials' existence and had been "on the verge of revealing" information but was asked not to in order to prevent "mass hysteria."

"They have been waiting until today for humanity to develop and reach a stage where we will understand, in general, what space and spaceships are," Eshed said, referring to the galactic federation.

The White House and Israeli officials did not immediately respond to NBC News’ request for comment. Sue Gough, a spokesperson for the Pentagon, declined to comment.

A spokesperson for NASA said one of the agency's key goals was the search for life in the universe but that it had yet to find signs of extraterrestrial life.

"Although we have yet to find signs of extraterrestrial life, NASA is exploring the solar system and beyond to help us answer fundamental questions, including whether we are alone in the universe," the spokesperson said in a statement.

Eshed's ideas are spelled out in more detail in "The Universe Beyond the Horizon — conversations with Professor Haim Eshed" by Hagar Yanai published in November.

Who’s to tell. Part of his spiel seems consistent but someone with that security clearance should be dead

Until an alien is sat down at some kind of intergalactic press conference, getting busted wanking on zoom, it’s all theory and conjecture

Is having aliens experimenting on your genitals as intense as fingering your own bumhole, though?
