we're all ashamed of how little and how poorly we read we all nurture the idea of reading more and reading better but how to trick yourself into doing it. thats the question.

particularly the second part. it's very difficult to become a sharper reader maybe impossible.

there's days or moments in which reading seems possible, or some types of reading seem possible. this or that faculty is available, it could be a kind of clarity or a type of emotional sympathy and understanding or a kind of dispassionate rationality. some god-faculty feintly accessed that is usually unavailable

yes it does fluctuate but i think it's got less to do with how much you happen to be spending in the @Corpsey pit of self-pleasuring, @woops pit of self inebriating, @luka cloud of godlike insight and more to do with this kind of thing
Every trained mind has some aspect of the world that it finds comparatively predictable. [...]

One of the more delightful things in life is to find people who can surprise you on your home turf [...] For me, as one of those book-learned sorts, people who make interesting and unexpected moves in language and ideas are similarly fascinating. Most Discourse is pretty boring, because most of it is people running around in circles you already know the broad outline of, so it's the ones darting off at odd tangents (who probably just look unusually chaotic to the ordinary observer) you find you want to follow and try to figure out.

the best reader i know is grapejuice and the trick he has pulled off is to make all reading a revelation of some grand magical plan unfolding. i think a frame like this is what is needed to really allow for fully enganged and energised reading across all spheres. i think Prynne has pulled off a smiliar trick but with a much wider scope and third also, hes got the Marxist frame. thats what every proper reader seems to need.

if you realy want to engage the full libidinal power thrusters that Stan was always on about.

that wasn't a rhetorical question.

these openings and opportunities though always fleeting fascinate me. for example the last three days have allowed me to read Uylesess. this is not usually possible for me becasue i usually find it intensely irritating.

the tangents from whatever it is you're reading. not all reading material is the same is it? some of it is a lot more boring, intensely irritating than other stuff. so you've identified a new tangent in Ulysses or whatever that allowed it to become interesting. same way the offer of a £1000 might. maybe you're right and a week's wank retention would work too.

whats happened is that i have, for a short time only, been granted an ability to interface with aspects of the text which i am usually blocked from.

the continual opening up and shutting down of these opportunities to interface with different aspects of the Face of God is very interesting to me but have nothing to do with tangents.
