done loads of drugs round mouldy old stones and barrows. Avebury, Carnac, Waylands Smithy etc. Never felt any magic, nothing out the ordinary in any case. do them in London though and you'll really feel the heavy occult powers operating.

Felt a little something doing psychedelics with Lewis in the grounds of the Buddhist Temple in Wimbledon.

When did you go to Waylands Smithy? That's within a few miles of where I spent my first 18 years.

prefer the rural setting, not as some pseudo-energy crap although I can definitely empathise with you about drugs and cityscapes, undertows and strange currents, more the point with a bit of planning getting out to non artificial horizons....admittedly this is more introverted take on decompression techniques and these sites having an obvious survival bias in such places

Cities bring on that caged in feeling. Contained. Concrete < stone. Last summer got pretty deep on mushrooms with a couple of mates and within an hour we were out walking the hinterlands and woodlands. The cue was someone saying the carpet felt really synthetic and weird 🤪

Avebury, Carnac and W’lands Smithy etc are best encountered stone cold sober. You need your empathic self fully engaged and your critical joker wondering what all the fuss is about to feel out such places. A salivating, swirly-pupiled, Cope-drude only gets you so far

In The Simpsons Burns' assistant Smithers has the first name Wayland, I always wondered if that was some kind of nod to that place, it has to be doesn't it?

One of the off putting things about Avebury is all the old people in gortex fiddling with thermos lids

One thing I've noticed at megalithic sites is that people very clearly still have a strong urge to leave votive offerings. Take a look into the cavities eroded into the surface of the stone and you'll invariably see that someone has recently placed something there - a button, a 2p, a bird's skull, a smooth pebble, a snail shell, a flower, a nut, a fungus...

As a cynic I've always assumed that's not so much a strong urge but more to do with the underwhelming nature of the experience itself. What are we supposed to do here? They're just stupid stones. Perform a ritual? Hug the rock? Leave a coin? Strip naked?

the new-age bollocks footprint is all over these realms

didn’t get them until a close friend passed coinciding with a mission out to Nine Ladies

the way grief can only fold itself around such a loss, trying to hold it in your consciousness, then seeing this monolithic force from thousands of years ago

this is the genius of stone as a metaphor - Stonehenge had Woodhenge at Durrington, the stone circle for the dead and the wood circle for the living - aka how we enculture memory and emotion

If there was a person who was interestedi n pre-historic sites and dogging then the hobbies could combine almost too neatly.

Tara was the biggest disappointment. People picnicking, football being played. I had all my amulets, mirrors and charms, a penny whistle and antlers and everyone kept running away
I'm sorry to hear that, but how did you know she was called Tara? I thought the anonymity was the whole point?
