you're far too modest, @WashYourHands. I'd guess you know more about coil than anyone here, hell you just bought a huge coffee-table book on them! different phases of coil's career offer different rewards, all of it interesting to me.

Nice one version, will check them out.

Had a listen to a few things today but wasn't really in the mood tbh, I will be though.

I love pretty much all coil, except bits of backwards which haven't dated well. Favourites change all the time But highlights over the past few days have been-

First dark ride, which is outrageously, flamboyantly good in its second half.

beestings, from their late rural pagan phase. Apparently they wanted the cello to sound like buzzing insects and summer heat haze ahhhhh

Maybe try Musick to Play in the Dark but go the full hog and play it in the actual dark, just get comfy with headphones/speakers and press play
Gonna try it like this at the first opportunity I get, I see it's on Spotify. There's what I suppose is a sort of 'best of' comp on there too called A Guide For Beginners/Finishers, might check that out first.

I listened to a little bit of loves secret domain the other day and was liking some of it (not so much the vocals) but wasn't able to give it my full attention. Sounded pretty cool though, will return.

Listening is such a varied and profound experience in life. Add extra emphasis for stay at home as it is currently. That’s another pillar to their pantheon - making modes of listening as attuned as possible

Archive has CSO 15 and 16 (the reconstruction kits) consolidated into one. Descriptions and torrent links on webpage and while one or two backing video graphics are a bit dated (eg the plane sequence), the majority are still visceral and continue to punch through

woops

is not like other people
LSD will be reissued at least once this year, stuff is up on Archive while the copyright is all up in the air

Further back and faster - this is fucking mental. I like the ones where his voice sounds like a didgeridoo, very shroomy.

Got anal staircase on now though 😬

I have his first album, the 2cd "I, Thighpaulsandra.", a different side of his sound. always liked this one, has a bit of a foetus vibe

Was listening to the latest thighpaulsandra the other day, Practical Electronics. I think he's amazing. The best lyricist going. He has the perfect thing of teetering across the line where you know exactly what he's talking about but it's also a form a nonsense. It's magic.

He also doesn't seem to give a fuck for any notions of good taste at all and I appreciate that. Listening to him you realize how truly rare it is to hear a musician not pander to the audience in any way

I've never really developed an appreciation for later Coil though I like the first few albums a lot. There's one track about "eating your broccoli" which I thought was the worst thing ever. Saw 'em live god only knows how long ago now. With Julian Cope and Ash Ra Tempel if memory serves. Will try and give some this monster Coil drop an airing. Cheers.
