Name musicians/bands/producers you've never heard and probably never will hear

I've always written off YES because I got into punk once upon a time and considered all prog the enemy - but a few YES songs have come up on my shuffle and I actually liked them quite a lot

This brings up one of the biggest gaps in my musical knowledge - PINK FLOYD

Never heard them beyond uhhh maybe 'Brick in the Wall'? What I've heard hasn't made me want to hear more, but I know they're this totemic thing in music so I probably should get around to it. My big discovery this year was that 'Pet Sounds' by The Beach Boys is actually brilliant, just like MOJO said it was.

Dark Side and Wish you were here are the ones. Dark Side perhaps needs to be heard in the callow stages of life and is difficult to listen to due to the weight of cliche built up since, but it's still an amazing record. Wish is far more clinical robo prog with a tiny beating heart at its core, but there is still some heart.

I have a soft spot for meddle which I cant justify.

The cognoscenti will tell you to stick to the early LP's, but apart from some quirky 60's pop and aimless proto prog they arent that great.

Stuck on a John peel sessions playlist and thus heard a bit of The Fall. Never again? Awful.

Culture 'Two Sevens Clash' immediately followed it which really stuck the nail in the fall.

If you still have these, and the tracks are their later stuff, fair enough. But if these mp3s include "Carnage", "Beginning of the End" and/or "Sanctuary" you need to play them at airplane jet-volume. Probably while poking a rotting goat's eyeballs out and pondering the atrocity of everyday life.

Droid's wrong about early Floyd being crap (though a few songs were twee as hell), but dead right about Dark Side. Even if you can't take it seriously, or find it overblown and pompous, it's still really enjoyable and sounds like nothing else. Avoid the 'Wizard of Oz film comparison' brigade, the actual contents are far weirder and darker than their boring conspiracy theory.

In terms of stuff I'll never hear, probably 99.9% of the jazz canon. Can't stand it. Tried Miles Davis, lasted a minute, tried Sun Ra, lasted less.

I woudnt say they're crap. Ive enjoyed set the controls and astronomy domine at times, and there's certainly some curios in there, but there's a lot of self indulgence and misfiring.

This sounds close to my impression. I thought "Oxford Comma" was p. nice.

I don't listen to them regularly and when I heard A-Punk I thought the fake high-life vocal effects were pretty much, but then again we're told to cosign Talking Heads and were they much better necessarily?

I haven't heard any of Daniel Lanois solo, doesn't seem my cup of tea. And I have never heard a lick of Sick of it All.

Strawberry Switchblade is beloved by all my friends who love Cocteau Twins, so for that reason I've never ever ever listened to them.
Strawberry switchblade look good

I saw Strawberry Switchblade play on an all day bill at the Palais - Thee Fabulous Feast Ov Flowering Light - run by Psychic TV and all their offshoots/acolytes. They were doing sort of pop music but were a bit too arch/knowing to be convincing. I remember The Virgin Prunes stole the show but there was an early performance by Bjork in Kukl which i managed to miss.

I vowed never to listen to Henry Cow but I listened to them the other day and they were not 100% good but were still quite good.

I think Kathy Acker was there - people from Coil obvs, plus all sorts of odd looking sorts making a dreadful racket whilst GOP went around grinning at it all.
The Republican party were in attendance at a Psychic TV all-dayer with Kathy Acker and Strawberry Switchblade?

Later period David Byrne.
I mean most anything from the musical about Emelda Marcos shoes/ show closet.
His label may be the better thing.
Liked Chris Franz ' book : )
