It's just endless hardfloor rip offs without the alien chatter that those German boys managed to get from their synths. Yeh man, very punk man. Except I don't care, I want paranoid, frightening lysergic filth to make you lose your sanity, not anger about a system that people have no intention of changing once the work week roles around.

It's one or the other!

Yup. Often the dichotomy is between poppy feminin dance music and underground credible blokey dance music. I'm against this classification. Make dance music alienating to the blokes (and especially the blokes) as well. Feminin can be good if it's done like in 92 ardkore, screaching chipmunks to alienate pitchfork readers.

I don't think there's much of a barrier to entry to learning to dj for younger people. I'm sure you can get a starter kit for less than £300. if anything it seems like djing with a controller at home as a hobby has become the logical next step for loads of people (who might not want to actually DJ out n about) from enjoying music in playlists.

that runs into the thing about plastician on twitch. there's a similar thing with younger music producers all jumping in discord to chat about producing dance music. it's like Ableton experienced as another video game. dance music provides the templates and the inspiration for trying out some new plugins and production techniques, but it feels like it's less linked to actually going to experience that in a club, you just share it in discord when you're done.

I don't even dj with a controller, qwerty keyboard rn. They should just make a keyboard with knobs and wheels which I can remap in vdj.

Very true. Recently started tuning into some of these. Disclosure for eg. It's totally different how they're approaching it. Not much focus on innovation, more just getting things right and functional. Have to admire the craft. They're very good at what they do. Disclosure's ace up the sleeve is the brother who's a wiz on the keys. He knows his harmonies

I swear I've seen someone on Alex McLean's tidal forum mentioning they're working on a keyboard with knobs.
considering the whole scene of modular solder-yourself computer keyboards I'm actually surprised no one had done that before.
I guess the difficult bit could be handling the midi + regular keyboard drivers from one input? dunno

not been out out in ages but saturday night at schrodingers was really good. sort of blanketed techno suitable for 40 year olds. no sort of agenda, just decent building set with a few spanners thrown in, reminded me of (dare i say it) big beat. not a lot of vocals and the whole thing a bit rolling/sludgey. and great crowd as well, in a little hot room with a lot of smoke.

made me feel achey for the white hotel which i've not been to in something like 2.5 years.

this one just coming up caught my eye https://ra.co/events/1549141 good to see mumsy back out and about

Consider: loads of little Boris Johnson lookalikes who went to private school on MDMA running around the country oozing their pale body oder on everything
Some people have - weirdly and very very cruelly - said I look like Boris Johnson. I don't obviously, maybe if I was Turkish like he is there would be more of a resemblance... also I never went to private school of course.

Now I'm following some dance music adjacent ppl on twitter I get little hints of various hot topics e.g. drake/beyonce making house

And one I've seen occasionally is the complaint from young people that over 35s are ruining festivals
