Scotland is split, north of Ireland that’s a lot of belligerent, bowler-hatted, Orange cuntery

Imagine the metastasising right wing here confronted by Hong Kong resident visas, then a Tory govt offering to “repatriate“ Ulster Plantation descendants....No Surrender is a tattoo of identity and they’d have more fun saying no to leaving the union and winding up Dublin than what may actually benefit future generations

Arlene Foster and the entire DUP should be exiled on the Falklands, as a side note
True, but the Republicans have time/demographics on their side.

Bo Jo will fuck it up for sure, but that misunderstands Bo Jo's appeal. he's managed to unite the Berlisconi type sleazebag wing of the tory party with a section of the old patrician establishment. For instance he is in a very real sense to the left of the ERG.

Him fucking it up is more impetus for his lyalists to vote for him, as its a middle finger to technocratic labour, which they see in bed with Brussles, lexit notwithstanding.
I wonder if him fucking up/being caught with his pants down and cock in the till will mean much anymore. His is very like Berlusconi in that regard, the sleaze seems unending but it doesn't stick or do damage and is, as you say, part of his appeal. We seem past the point when political shaming meant sacking and exile.

Same as Trump - he's a wish fulfilment character for his core constituency.

Rich enough that he can be multiply divorced and father sprogs all over the place without facing financial ruin over divorce settlements and child support payments. Sufficiently insulated by his connections and general class privilege that he can say things that would get an ordinary office drone hauled up in front of HR before you could say "discriminatory". And so on.

And is that how low aspiration has fallen? That people vote for someone who can get away with being the cunt they (not that) secretly want to be?

Never had you down as a socialist so assuming that's ironic? I know it's a famous phrase...
Well far be it for me to argue with Rosa but she could have said communism...

”Or the victory of Socialism, that means the conscious active struggle of the International Proletariat against Imperialism and its method of war."

It's always been like that tbh. Now it's just that politics is truly rudderless. But the whole act of voting puts one in a position such that the citizen is forced to consider *themselves* being a politician. In a way Trump, Bo Jo Berlusconi and co. are more honest than the old politicians of yours. Here honesty does not equate to decency but mere transparency. Now that politics has been hollowed out of all external content, however, the only thing the citizen can do at the ballot box is vote for their own aspirations on paper. It's easy enough to rail against them and them condemn nationalism in the same breath, but that won't make sense outside of the university or debating salon. Too hypothetical, too presumptive and Too detached from what's really going on at the concrete level.

if you're voting for the party of Universal Credit cuts, the party of turning away refugees who've made unimaginable journeys on dingys, the party of denying free school meals to kids in poverty - some moral failings on the part of the leadership isn't going to be a line in the sand for you. I don't think it's (broadly) so much about aspiration and envy as it is about people simply not caring.

That, or active schadenfreude. A lot of people in this country are happy to get slapped in the face if it means they can watch someone else get kicked in the bollocks.

I would disagree tbh. Part of what animates the Tory vote is an appeal to a vague idea of nationalism which trumps that which you've just mentioned.

Yeah that's what drives the vote, but the corruption and sleaze doesn't turn them off because they've already embraced the worst elements of the party values and have no shame in doing so.
