don't really have a workable vinyl setup at the moment but it's something i might get back into soon... that yourube vid you posted is good enough for now ta

I think they both have something and you could love the one or the other but tbh I like the nirvana version more.
It is rougher and more emotional

You're both mad - it's all about the way leadbelly sings the word 'shiver' and that dead-eyed delivery that make it so cold and powerful and haunting, I could never call it 'slick'. I do like Cobain's version actually for its intensity and the cathartic release when he starts screeching, but that means it loses that sense of sustained latent fury and forboding that make's Leadbelly's so special.
Plus just the fact the recording is so old gives it that extra layer of creepiness (I posted it on the gramaphone thread)

the one is more kind of romantic and kind of a bit spooky and more harmonic and the other one rougher, rawer and a bit crackier.
So I think it says much about the person which version he likes more ;)
