skunk just appeared on the scene though, a good few years ago now, so there was normal weed, and then suddenly there was this new strain - it didnt seem like there had been a gradual process of crossing strains, more like it was developed and dropped

growers have been crossbreeding for aeons (look at any flower), hydroponics were the shift with cannabis, nobody really caught on early antipsychotics were being degraded by its processes

gene editing must already be going on in labs across the world, places which don’t want people to know their agenda and operate outside recognised codes of conduct/ethics (not that there really are any to align to at that level of operation)

I assume gene editing to explode and throw up gains and horrific consequences - genes as holistic clusters - but if you carry a DNA sequence that causes much higher risks of early death (with new ways to edit safely), who wouldn’t be persuaded

therein lies the rub, aka gene editing Olympics and dinowars

From the original article,
Only a few gene-edited crops have been commercialized anywhere. One example is a tomato called the Sicilian Rouge High GABA that makes more of an amino acid said to promote relaxation, approved for sale in Japan last year. Just two gene-edited crops have made it to U.K. field trials. One, in 2018, evaluated the performance of camelina, a mustard relative, engineered to produce an olive oil–like product. And in a recent trial, researchers tested broccoli edited for improved nutrition.
A nice, relaxing tomato.

another attempt to debunk the lab leak theory - still pretty weak given the lack of evidence

Will we ever know, fully? I doubt it. It’s what’s done with these theories and foreign interventions that’s a notch or 2 up the fear ladder, ie encircling China and constriction over containment

The legal nightmare of ethics seems like a cobweb over gene editing, ie easy to punch through

I assume it’s already underway, unchecked, completely unregulated and the worst is yet to come. Human disease management and agriculture are the perfect cover

will the evidence ever connect with someone who a.) can understand it and b.) has the integrity and c.) the voice to get the real story out there definitively.
unless some sort of "smoking gun" emerges, which seems unlikely, most of this is too sciencey for normal mortals to assess

Yeah that’s the scope/crux of all the inherent complexity. Isn’t this where AI and computing prowess is supposed to support progress (as opposed to growth)? Not to be a misanthropic bore, but the route is usually weaponisation, followed by some kind of treaty where all options are still stockpiled (see nuclear or Porton Down) just in case

seems like the chimera theory is steadily gaining credibility
