So in a situation where all of the scientists are convinced that Johnson's government is rushing too fast to open up, where other countries are horrified at the recklessness towards its population displayed by the UK government, where half of his own country are begging with him not to totally relax the rules as they fear the results, the obvious conclusion is that the UK Government is sinisterly in favour of total lockdown?
The bedwetting/brainwashed half of the country and the monomaniacal scientists will be frothing at the bit for more restrictions as the situation worsens over the next month, while the freedom-lovers will have less of a leg to stand on (it will be said): opposition to lockdown will be much feebler as a result.

what isnt? what are you talking about?
The Time article was about people getting together to ensure that the institutions of democracy worked and couldn't be subverted. Eg a state legislature wouldn't be able to block the elected representatives and send its own. The matters discussed in that article would only help the person won the necessary votes to win the electoral college. I know that the article came out a while back but I can still remember it, it's like when we were discussing On The Silver Lake and you kept going "how can you lot remember that bit?" some of us just can I guess, and I notice how each time you refer to that article your description goes slightly further from what it was and slightly further towards what you want (or possibly misremember) it to have said.

To be honest this is more a reply to MB than you so you don't necessarily need to follow it.
I just meant that MB theory about Covid now includes as one of its tenets that Trump was somehow got rid of. Something I've not seen MB claim before in the election threads, but which he now suddenly totally accepts to the extent that he just throws it in there as part of a paragraph about something else.
My point is, if i was talking about theory and I just went "oh they coordinated it from that nazi bombe that was found on the moon" I think that weakens the overall theory, cos everyone now has to accept another tricky one on the way and those fools who think that that story was not true, are suddenly not onboard any more.

so, a subset of the globalist push to close down the planet is the bedwetter v. freedom lover clash.

yeah, im a connesuier of cranks. Leo only reads the New York Times so he relies on me to hook him up with
the underground shit
Movie idea: a remake of Crank, but with @luka instead of Jason Statham, and his head will explode if he goes for more than five minutes without reading a blog post by some apocalyptic loonie who's obsessed with the Illuminati.

Also, it's not part of some villain's evil plan, it's just now he is.

So Johnson is playing the long game? That sounds ridiculous in itself.
But the wider point here is the conspiracy theory method, if the government do A they are obviously trying to push you into their trap... and, if they do Not A then it's clear evidence of the same thing.

It's also about rich elites making sure they get theirs – international travel, clean water, security, good food, comfortable housing, roaring log fires – while the rest of us own nothing and are happy. It's a power grab and a material grab. They've looked at forecasts and found a way to shit on the rest of us while minimising the impact on them.

what about the normal rich guys. the ones who own a car dealership or a bunch of fast-food franchises for 10 years and have a couple of million in the bank? do they qualify for the good life, or will they be ground into power like the rest of us? or does your crypto investment put you in the running? what's the demarcation for those who "get theirs" and those who don't?

There was an article that you and Mr IQ said proved there was a massive conspiracy to fix the election to get rid of Trump. I pointed out that the article in fact said the opposite - that there was a conspiracy of sorts to prevent Trump's people from fixing the election, in fact to ensure that the election was free and fair, which Trump then lost because the other guy got a lot more votes - and you got really mad and started calling me a fuckwit over and over.

It was most strange.

Can't remember if it was in Time or whatever.

Any theories out there on the reliance upon unfalsifiable beliefs, when and where the situation is too complex to rationally diagnose? In principle it makes sense, I just wonder where and when similar trends have emerged.

Presumably people could've reacted this way when the notion of germs entered popular consciousness, and perhaps there is still some residuum of this particular skepticism.

Johnson has to play the long game cos he's part of a gang that is playing the long game (although not really that long a game as they're rolling out these changes very quickly)
