i will just state here as a minnesotan that minneapolis indie civic pride about bob dylan prince the replacements and husker du/sugar is Washed and has No Truck with the sort of 'midwest cultural mafia' that gets us drop bass network, ohio players, josh burke/hanson records/Midwest Noise, in general, or the kind of Gang Activity documented in cam's 'get it in ohio'. the current is not 'midwest cultural mafia'. rhymesayers is not 'midwest cultural mafia', and eyedea is not alive.
elite gymnastics are from minneapolis originaly also but would also reject any kind of 'civic pride' move to tie them to minneapolis, i don't think jamie brooks made her most important music here.
i will advocate for any of these people or groups -as music- (although bc they're 'canonical' they stand in no need) but it's the civic pride thing that rankles.

midwest is cool to me cos it is the definition of how much is in-between. the in-between is endless and dense like a fruit cake

this is true. the midwest is neither strictly plain foothill nor forest. neighborhoods of minneapolis and chicago, not even the outlying suburbs but city limits proper, are mad different architecturally + demographically, even from block to block

is there any insight to be gained from the fact that drill and techno are midwestern in origin and deeply articulated + transformed in the uk?
