how much do you drink in a normal week?

It's a companion piece to the lad who ate fists full of Space Dust, drank gallons of Lemonade, and then blew up in the playground.

And also, for some reason in my head anyway, the kid who built a nuclear reactor in his parents' back garden and used to be called Glow Boy by his classmates.

More now. I stopped drinking on Sundays for a while but that didn’t survive lockdown.

The half bottle of red is sometimes preceded by a beer or if not is sometimes two thirds of a bottle.
Almost everyone is drinking more. The shadow of death.

Yeah except there are a few freaks who have gone straight edge and binged on running.

We had our first catch up back in the office recently and a couple of people looked amazing. Magnified even more by the rest of us and our decline.

For the first couple of weeks of the 1st lockdown (which was very, very strict here in Spain) I didn't drink at all, highly stressed and paranoid, but there came a day I thought fuck it, went to the supermarket and bought a big pack of bottled lager and haven't stopped since - fridge always stocked with beers and I go out for a few every single night without fail whereas pre lockdown was 2 or 3 nights a week.

I'm not paranoid about covid anymore but I do wonder if I've become a low level alcoholic.

You're not an alcoholic if you're a connoisseur.

How do you know when you've become one? I'm happy enough, a nice drunk (its all low level stuff, I'm not on the spirits etc) pretty tired a lot of the time but more or less OK. Maybe you only know when you try to stop?

My guess, being from a family of drinkers who actually aren't drunkards, is that when you start drinking to avoid unhappiness, you may want to frame your drinking as alcoholism.

Yeah, thing is, until you try to stop it's hard to know. It's quite possible that's what I'm doing, what we're *all* doing. But I haven't even tried stopping yet.

I think it's mainly to avoid boredom more than anything.
