7 - Heaven Can Wait

Warren Beatty is always at the oscars and for a while I never really understood why he was considered Hollywood royalty, but if you watch a few of his films you might start to understand. He made some smart films that are the best of Hollywood. Including this one that I believe he wrote, directed and starred in. It's a comedy about a guy who dies too early and comes back in the body of a millionaire.

8 - Freeway

A serial killer starts calling a local radio station and quoting the Bible at the same time as driving round shooting people. A little known B Movie I think is well underrated. It has a score by the composer that scored a load of Abel Ferrara films, Joe Delia, kinds synth brass stuff.

La Luna sounds fantastic. Craner said that Sharon Stone is 'minging.' A minority opinion that.

The best scene in Basic Instinct is Michael Douglas and Jeanne Tripplehorn rutting like crazed animals. Very underrated performances by both.

Glad there's some already that people haven't seen. My reviews are not much better when I've recently seen a film, these are dug out from my memory as I think of them so I can be quite brief explaining my choices unfortunately. Maybe I'll write a little more about some films but I don't want to force it.

5 - The Hitcher

Apparently Ebert called the film reprehensible because of the violence. I liked Ebert as a critic but I also rate this road thriller. Rutger Hauer plays a good bad guy. It seems a cross between Duel and the equally awesome Ida Lupino directed film, The Hitch-Hiker.

You should check out Pasquaele Campinale's Hitchhike, it's better than both of those.

Speaking of Morricone scored films as per the above rec, this won or got nominated for a load of Razzies, unfairly in my opinion. It stars Pia Zadora who did some cheesy 80s tracks and burned down the famous Pickfair mansion. Based on a M. Cain novel I haven't read. It's about an incestuous father daughter relationship that winds up in court with a drunk Orson Welles as a judge. But the highlight for me is the fluttering arpeggios of the Morricone score.

I never did watch all that many Troma films, but I think I picked the best here. It's goofy but very watchable.

I don't remember it being that violent, more of a sadistic bad guy played by Rutger Hauer who just torments his victim throughout the film.
I love that little smile and raised eyebrow when he gets his attention in the diner,

There's another film called Freeway from the 90s that's also about a serial killer with reese witherspoon and keifer sutherland. It's kind of extreme. I was expecting your standard 90s thriller but it's basically an exploitation film. Witherspoon is amazing in it.

Is that when hef saviour is making her describe how her boyfriend coming on her face makes her feel like a toilet and he's getting off on it?
Sequel with Vincent Gallo.

that's the one that is the exploitation remake of "Little Riding Hood"? The sequel is "Hansel & Gretel" updated, the "kids" have to drop their rocks of crack ( instead of breadcrumbs ) to trace their tracks through the forest..

Nah I got stuck trying to remember a 90s thriller I saw that has a section that's a pastiche of Rear Window. I'll continue a bit faster soon.

The Brian de palma one? Body double? Maybe not tho cos it was more vertigo? But that very good and justly famous museum scene is very rear window.

Or maybe that Linda fiorentino one, the first one, can't remember the name ottomh

It definitely has elements taken pretty much directly from Rear Window but apparently it was 1984 so, for that reason, might not be what he was thinking of.

I remember the Last Seduction being pretty good but can't remember if it was influenced by Hitch, or if so which one.

there's definitely a de palma cult. but interestingly, his very early films, greetings and hi mom, neither of which ive seen, are supposed to be very different to the later stuff, very scruffy experimental
