Yes, I deliberately staged this one for 'mystical' effect.

These are waxcaps, btw - not sure of the species. They come in all sorts of colours but all have the same sort of texture.

It was my little boy's 2nd birthday the other day, and one of his presents came wrapped in this amazing paper:

I love the somewhat vampiric toothy grins on them.

*insert 'a-man-eater muscaria' joke*

i cooked those oysters and they were actually very delicious - vaguely followed the recipe.

put them in a roasting tin with some red onion, garlic, chilli, liberally dosed with olive oil.

Nice! Could be worth going back to the same tree in a little while, see if there's another flush. Oysters will fruit at almost any time of the year, as long as there isn't a hard frost (probably not yet this year) or a long dry spell (unlikely).

Found an incredible enchanted forest this morning, really quite tricky to get to cos very muddy and also required crossing a fast stream. But worth it, saw a load of very old trees and loads of amanitas, amongst a few others.

Was tempted to pick them but I don't think I'd actually ever eat them, unless I was with someone who knew better.

Some very interesting large and hard bracket mushrooms as well
