I like that they go quite hard. Good quality beer and drugs as well. Terrible music generally speaking, as well as terrible taste, but it's swings and roundabouts.
What, is that a wind-up? I love German music, whenever I dj it's quite common for me to realise afterwards that half of the stuff I played was German.

Cologne and Dusseldorf are really near each other so if you do it right you can get the best of both of them - Cologne has the cathedral and record shops, loads of hipster cafes and so on whereas in Dusseldorf you've got amazing museums centred around the art academy. And obviously you've got this krautrock, post-punk, techno embedded in the dna cos of Kraftwerk, Neu!, Malaria, DAF, Liason Dangerouses, Mice on Mars, Kriedler, Lena Willikens, Can, Gas, Kompakt, Floh de Cologne... and some very good restaurants I find.

Hamburg is supposed to be good too but I've never been.

I've been to hamburg, it's brilliant. Went to a punk pub and we were a bit hesitant as to whether it was ok to get some dust out and just chop it on the table, it seemed a cool enough sort of place and they were really nice and accommodating, was 3am or something.

So wece asked the barmaid and were trying to be subtle bug couldn't explain, and he couldn't speak English, so she went in the back and got the chef and he understood and then they had a word in German and she didn't say anything and just went round the back and got a beer towel and cleaned the table up for us. And then said go ahead.

And yeah the German music from now I meant, all that noseblleed techno is what I meant. I don't generally like it. I've been to Berlin twice and neirherf time didi hear any good music when I went out.

And they all seem to be stuck in a rut where they listen to either the beatles or 70s not very good English punk but maybe that's my limited experience of going there 5 times only and never dj'd there

Hamburg red light district is revolutionary in that they have loads of stand up urinals on the road like bins for the lads.

Mrs Tea raves about Garner. I should probably check him out.
I read one based on poetix' recc. Was very good, he sort of goes somewhere and you just have to keep up, he doesn't explain anything. Was about this track near Macclesfield where there's some 15th century witchcraft type circle doing a ritual, then the same place in the 1960s and two people going for a walk and it sort of flits between the two.

Neirherf was set up by the people who run the Berghain, wasn't it?

Garner is a very good childrens author but if you didnt read those books as a child youre not going to get as much out of it. Elidor and and the weirdstone of brisngamen are amaing. @poetix as it happens is one of the worlds leading authorities on Garner. at least i think it was him. it might be Robin Carmody actually.

I named my website after one of his books OBVIOUSLY, and I'm rather surprised we've never had a thread on him.
Did he peak with the early fantasies? Or was "Red Shift" not only his masterpiece but *the* masterpiece of the 1970s, the encapsulation of that decade's doubts and nerves?

I say the latter, naturally

everyone was fascainted by him becasue he was so unique. so focussed and knowledgeable and so clear about what he thought.
you could also think of him a bit like Craner without the attachment to glamour and the lurid.

definitely got the sense of a mole cosy in his burrow surrounded by old leather bound books and newspaper. macerated crumpet. brown tea. comfort and cosinesss.

Both similar to, and very different from, Marcello Carlin. I think both quite a long way out there in terms of neurodivergence. Living - really living - in extraordinarily richly-detailed worlds, lovingly assembled memory palaces.

It’s a way of being I admire a lot. My inner landscape is much more fragmented. I’m a magpie, not a Keeper of the Great Archive.
