Le Epic Choons

Surely you can see there is a difference between a Joy Division song and Lose Yourself? That they embody very different ideas of what it is to live and what it might feel like, what it might demand of us and how we might respond to that? That they dwell in entirely different universes? Under an entirely different set of parameters

I readily admit that there are many varieties of le epic, indeed, a great text has been written on this very subject called The Varieties of Religious Experience, nonetheless, they are all united by that quintessence, that je ne sais quoi of "le epic-ness"

A lot of this has to do with how the limit is perceived and how it is responded to

If it makes you fly, if you could imagine it in a slow-mo death scene, it is probably le epic

An old friend lost his mind after hundreds of acid doses and finally went completely loco after hearing Phil Collins‘s In the Air Tonight

We’d been up all weekend on micrdots and other compounds, sitting in said mate’s front room. A baggie of microdots had been sold and in the bottom was a powder of remnants. I was out of my mind, so twisted, sluggish from booze and the whole time he kept dabbing his fingertip into the baggies and taking more. Over the radio, Phil Collins came on

Mate sort of stood up rapid, few of us were huh, his arms started pointing out of the window “they’re coming, CAN YOU HEAR? THEY’RE FUCKIN HERE ALREADY MATE!” and started screaming, ran to the side door and out of the abode into the night. Talk about a buzzkill

I suppose what I'm saying is I would think of the epic as a feeling not as a set of techniques
