Junk, in terms of unintelligible discourse that is of little importance even if it could be understood.
And personally I think a lot of continental philosophy consists of this. Sometimes the scaffolding is warranted if the central point is tricky enough to articulate and warrants the conceptual gymnastics, but a lot of the time it seems unwarranted.

Yeah for a while I was an undoubting apologist for word salad, always just assuming that it was my fault when the discourse didn't resonate (not unlike the aesthetic approach we were just talking about). But I've since taken a bit of a turn toward plain language, at least compared to where I was, and now I'd largely agree with you that much of it isn't very important and doesn't warrant the gymnastics required to understand it.

There might be other effects people are trying to generate with it too of course, particularly in the case of D&G... But I'm no expert, in fact, I know fuck all about it!

Yeah I get the sense with D&G that they were, in part, trying to disorient the reader, almost as a rhetorical tactic, maybe to try to break the reader out of whatever psychoanalytic orthodoxy D&G were opposed to.

In their case, I think there is something of a theory-poetry, a conceptual aesthetics that I personally find mesmerizing and hugely influential.

By proliferating all these loaded lines of thought, the tendency to reduce every down to the One becomes an unsustainable effort, and is maybe revealed to be a misguided effort altogether.

And use many of the same devices in terms of intentional obscurity and obfuscation etc

I think Prynne is an improvement on them in that he does a lot of things they are mostly content to just describe

The only lens through which something can be polarising now seems to be the culture war. A film is polarising if it's either "problematic" or a bunch of people are upset about it being "woke". There's nothing outside that.
