Admittedly I've been paying a lot more attention to dancehall so may have missed loads, but did the London take on amapiano/afrohouse dry up a bit at least in terms of tracks/releases? Was thinking about standout tracks this year and I could think of some belonging to that sound from early 2021 (or they came out late 2020) but hardly anything after. Just checked and it doesn't seem Housupa has released anything since July for example.

Heard Coldsteps saying over a set that Housupa have got a compilation coming out next year so that might explain why they've been quiet. Marcus Damon has got an album's worth of tracks on the way, separately. Scratcha played a couple Donaeo instrumentals on R1 recently and said they were dropping soon.

Kwamzy, Growzie Presents and DJ Fibbs have already been linked in here and seems like they've been pretty consistent in the latter half of the year.

It's a fair point that without Housupa in particular the whole thing seems a bit muted though. I wonder if other new labels will start to come thru and curate in the same way or if people will keep dropping solo Bandcamp stuff.

I've listened to the last 15 mins of this mix about 3 times now

Some of the nastiest, grimiest ama sounds I've heard. Very techy

Shazam not returning anything on these ones for me, if anyone could help out would give me right arm for the track IDs
44mins
48mins
52mins
56mins

Basically all of them in the last 15

i can't name any of them. i went to say the one at 50mins sounds def like an antony ranz tune but apparently it's a german deep house release from 2008 so what do i know....

released to no fanfare whatsoever, new marcus damon

different bits, varied list. seen the nts comp pop up on the usual end-of-year round ups.

nothing beats this for me

I was hoping they might be on that Marcus Damon album but no luck. Hopefully they're on the Housupa comp and that's why they're unshazamable for now

One of the tracks sounds similar to European 305 - E Class from FunkyAma Vol 3, but it's not. Posting anyway cuz this hasn't been in here yet:

There are a couple of amapiano edits I've heard of this but the European 305 one is the best

And their latest

European 305 are some serious musicians. Although the album format doesn't really suit this sound for me. End up trying to pick thru to find the standouts and listen to them individually, cuz when you listen to these extra long tracks back to back the build ups start to grate and it all sorta blends into one (in a bad way).

DJ Eastwood got covid at xmas and made this release while isolating, strong work ethic

Saw a couple of East Asian ama releases. First one was in this round up by Razzlerman and Scratcha - https://daily.bandcamp.com/lists/scratcha-dva-razzler-man-offer-their-gqom-and-amapiano-picks - second one is by the writer posted earlier in the thread

I rate the tempo drop in this stuff though. the 110s is not nearly explored enough and the people who do it in UK techno come out of that whole post-dubstep thing so they can often more than not sound inhibited.

Very nice. can't imagine raving it though, like an afters tune for me. But then again I like big basslines at my afters so what do I know.

Really? I'm screwin up my face at the drop on this one, think it's the trance stabs and the contrast from the sweetness before. Thought Ranz had brought in a whole new track when I heard it in the mix.

Talking about the slow tempo, there was some tweet doing the rounds about how ppl shouldn't speed it up past 118 max. One of my feelings about the tempo is that it's a major factor why OG amapiano will never catch all the way on in the UK beyond amafest and nights in Ldn. You've reeeeally gotta know how to dance with your whole body at those slow tempos cuz there's so much space to fill, and on the whole British ppl don't do that. Can't just wave your arms about or jump around.

Its quite refreshing i think, bit bored of the race to +8/+10 at the moment. Got into some of the UK sets where it was pitched up initially but it needs to be slow to work

If it carries on this will no doubt be 130 within a year and we're back to square one but the slowness is good right now. Plenty of people in the current parties can move tbh, i dont think its that big a problem (that said i havent been to a rave since November).
